Hi there. My son is almost 2 and he is going through the same thing. I don't think there is much you can do. May want to try cough syrup or using the sucky to get the drainage out of her nose at least. Might cut down the drainage into her throat and chest. Hope she feels better soon.

Her cold might have turned into croup. Just found out the twins have the same thing. Their lungs are clear but have phlegm in their throat. They were given prednisone(sp?). One dose this morning and they sound better already. I would get her in to see the doctor. Hope she feels better soon.

Hi J.:

My boy had the cold when he was a month old and lasted quite a long time. SALINE SPRAY finally let him get over it. It does wonder. Please spray her nose at least twice a day and the mucus should be gone within a week. I use the spray for each cold he gets. He is now 14.5 months old and everytime it works. I hope it works for you as well.

Good luck!

If you stay in the bathroom with her, with the hot shower going full blast (to create steam), all of the mucus will be coughed up. It doesn't matter if she can spit it out or if she swallows it, the point is to get it out of her lungs. Note: you and she aren't IN the shower, just IN the closed-up bathroom. It will get hot and uncomfortable for both of you, but it really works!

Hi J.,

I just went through this with my son, and he still has the chest congestion. It is getting better over time, but early am he's still coughing. So far elevating the crib, & nightly steamy showers seem to help minimize the mucous. He just had his 1 yr check up today & the Dr. said its just a virus that needs to run its course. Good Luck.. I wish I could offer more support..

When my son was little, I used to put warm chicken broth in a baby bottle. Can't hurt. Might help.

I understand that mucinex works really well, but it's costly. don't give her any milk - that makes more mucus.

A couple of things to try: first use Simply Saline in her nasal passages and then suck the phlegm out with a nasal bulb. That phlegm eventually ends up in the throat anyway, so this should help.
Second, when she is struggling to get phlegm out of her throat, try putting her face down over your lap, with a tissue or paper towel under her face to catch the results. Pat her back and see if gravity helps her get the phlegm out.

Hi J.~

I'm sorry to hear that your little one isn't feeling well. Something that works for my little guy is a cold air humidifier. My pediatrician recommended it for him when he had a cold and it worked like a charm. I bought ours at Longs and it wasn't very expensive. :)
