7 Year Old with Persistent Green Mucus

Just a suggestion...have you tried getting your son checked for sinus infections? I have very bad infections that turn from yellow to green to brown every three months, but I don't have any pain in my sinuses. (Occasionally, I do.) Try getting him checked for sinus infections, because a lot of people who have them don't think they do, or don''t think to get checked for it. If you get your son some Sudafed at Wal Mart, you can give him 1 pill every 4 hours (I think - read the directions) and the infection should clear up within a day, but keep giving him the medicine for at least 3 days.

I grew up with alot of the same symptoms. Not asthma, but allergies and multiple sinus and ear infections. I had ear tubes 3 times and should probalby have had them a couple other times.
First, get him allergy tested. Yes those old fashion pokes allover the back that tell you what you are allegic to. And then start allergy shots. I know they aren't fun but they do help. I also recommend talking to his doctor about an pneumonia vaccine. I took it and its help seem to cut down on the number of infections I had.
You already gotten comments about yeast but start looking into this. After 16 years of antibiotics I really had a problem with yeast. I had to take nystatin everyday and cut out all white sugar, but it really help improve my overall health. Start with a good Probiotic. And try to cut out as much processed food as possible.

My 4 year old had an issue similar to this. We fought sinus infections, ear infections, asthma attacks, had him tested for allergies, took him to a pediatric chiropractor. FINALLY, took him to an ear, nose & throat doctor who decided to remove his adenoids. The adenoids were of normal size but full of infection per the doctor. This happened 1 1/2 years ago and it is amazing how much better he is. He no longer fights sinus infections, zero ear infections, limited ashtma attacks and treating allergies with OTC products. Just my two cents.

has he seen an allergist? Has he been tested for both known & obscure allergens? By knowing the culprits, you will have a better chance at eliminating what's triggering him daily. For our son, it was mold & you can see his face/sinuses swell even just walking thru fall leaves! For our niece, it was a variety of pets, weeds, trees, & walnuts of all things. My stepmom (at age 63) was just tested & was positive for over 15 known allergens....no wonder her allergy meds do not work! Hope this helps.

My husband had persistent ear infections for 8 years and he also had green mucous. He was treated with antibiotics the whole time. Finally, he was diagnosed with a fungal infection (essentially a yeast infection). He was put on anti yeast infection drugs, changed his diet to one that was less friendly to the yeast, and he was fine within a few weeks.

Is that something that could work for you?

ditto with Trudy my daughter had chronic sinus infections and green crust sleeves (from wiping her nose on them) until adenoids came out in first grade. also cured her snoring and sleep apnea. ENT is a good place to start. Sinus infections take up to a month of antibiotics to clear up. Good Luck

My daughter had allergies and they put her on a maintenance medicine called Gantricin, she had ear infection problems and fall & winter allergies, this totally helped.
Also, you might try a Neti Pot, it's a way of rinsing out your sinuses, it's great and really helps, I'm not sure about the age, but it's pretty easy to do.
