Your son needs to be on an antibiotic too. Pneumonia is serious. Get him to the doctor.

Two of my girls have had pneumonia this year. The first one had clinical pneumonia and she got over it within days. My doctor gave her a shot antibiotic because it was that bad. My oldest developed walking pneumonia a week after my other girl got over hers. She had that for 3 weeks. Walking pnuemonia was awful! My doctor said the most important thing to do is to keep them hydrated. He wanted them to try to eat, but drinking fluids was most important.
You are doing everything you possibly can do. Keep a close eye on your little one. Right now it could just be a cold, but it very easily could turn into pneumonia. Both of my girls started out as colds but turned to pneumonia. It has been a very long couple of months at our house.

Oh my.
I would think both kiddos should be on meds.
Pneumonia is not good.
It can progress too.
Be sure to keep them monitored and if any worsening symptoms arise, get them to the ER.
The Pediatrician, should have also mentioned going in for a follow-up or what to do.

The cough syrups are just a band-aid, to alleviate discomfort. But it will not stop the illness or the progression of it.

Are they both to have the albuterol and nebulizer?

When I had Pneumonia, which arose after a common cold, I was put on meds. When my Mom had it, she had walking Pneumonia and the Doc wanted to put her in the hospital. She didn't go to the Doc right away. And it was developing worse, though she didn't know that. It took her a LONG time, to recover from it. I am talking, weeks. And it made her lungs weakened now.

Pneumonia is very serious. And can progress.

I would take them in for a 2nd opinion or take them to an Urgent Care.
This is nothing to take lightly.

If you don't trust your doctor, it's time to let him know that disagree with him so that he can either reassure you that he's made the right decision or you can get a different doctor. Ask questions. He has reasons for this decision.

Who are we, without medical training, to second guess a doctor? But we should ask when we don't understand his decisions.

As far as what you're doing, I think that you're doing all that you can do.

When my kids were sick I would buy a new kind of sippy cup or crazy straw to intice them to drink. I would also give them sweet tea (decaf). Really, flavored water or lemonade from Sonic, anything to make them drink.
Popsicle's and jello are good too.
Hope they get better soon!

My son had pneumonia 2 years ago on Christmas. He also had a very high fever but was but on antibiotics and ibuprofen to keep the fever down. I think you are doing everything you can. Just try to keep them rested. I also give my son a immune booster gummy by Little Critters. I give it at the first sign of an illness and he is never sick for long or severely since I started doing that.
