For the past month or so, my 3 year old son fequently mentions that he has a headache. I cannot tell if he really does have one, or if he just says it because he hears me say that I have a backache quite often, or my sister saying that she has a headache. As he doesn't really act any different, sill plays, runs, acts like his normal I guess to know for sure, I really need to take him in to the DR. but I am just wondering if anyone else had experience with this, if he could be making it up or ??
Thank you so much for all of your responses. I will definitely be taking him to the doctor soon as I can't imagina the guilt I would feel if I let it go, and it could turn out to be something.
is he holding his head, or pulling at his ears. Children often repeat what mommy and daddy say.If he says he has a headaache ask him to point out where it hurts. in the front probaly sinuses in the back might be migraines. either way if he can point out the head ache take him to see a doctor it might be nothing but it could be serious
Hi G.! My daughter started complaining of headaches about the same age. I to thought she was only repeating it because she heard mommy say it so much. In 2nd grade (almost 5 years later) the school gave her an eye exam and we found out that she needed glasses. Within weeks of getting her new glasses she stopped complaining about the headaches. I can't help thinking that I could have done something about it sooner and maybe her eyesight would not be as bad as it is today if I had her eyes checked sooner.
Another cause for headaches in children can be bladder infections. Often time kids will hold their urine to long, or not release all their urine when the go to the bathroom. This causes a bacteria build up in the bladder and infections. Sometimes, especially in little boys, the only symptom is a headache.
I know how you feel, and I would hate for you to make the same mistakes I did. It is worth a trip to the doctor, just to be safe. I hope everything works out for you and your little boy!
My 4 year old did the same about that age and at the time we were in VA. It ended up being seasonal allergies. Just like your son he still played and all. Now he does mimic my aches at times but it was allergies after all for him. It was several weeks of it so I mentioned it to the doctor.
He could be making it up but I would get him checked out right away. My friends son was telling her he had a headache and she just brushed it off as to copying her. Ended up he had a tumor on his brain. If she had taken him to the doctor right away he would be here with us today. Something like that you don't want to fool with. Also I suggest that you and your sister quit saying you have a headache around him all the time. Alot of children want to be involved in the grown up conversation so they will mimmick what they hear the grown ups doing. But yes, get him checked out, it's not worth over looking.....
