Can someone please offer suggestions on how to keep my twins from taking off their diapers? They will turn two in about a week. Usually this happens early in the morning or right after their nap. By the time I get to them, the damage has already been done. I don'[t know what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard that duct tape works. Sounds crazy, but wrap it around the waist of their diapers (don't stick it to their skin!) and they won't be able to get it off. You probably don't even have to go all the way around....just tape over the diaper tabs. I never had this problem, so I haven't dealt with it personally, but I have seen those suggestions on this board before. Good luck!

When my daughter did that shortly after turning two, I got her some one-piece jammies from The Children's Place and cut the feet off of them. Then, I put them on her backwards. After a month of this for naps and bedtime, she stopped. She's 2.5 now and takes naps in just a diaper and doesn't bother her diaper in the least.

P.S. I tried a cheaper option first (onsies) but she figured those snaps out in 3.7 seconds.

I am just guessing that they are ready to totally get rid of diapers and get 100% potty trained. I would move them out of cribs and into toddler bed, that way when they wake up you can train them to get up and go straight to the potty. No more diapers needed.

You could try putting them on backwards, or in outfits that they can't get off, like onesies.

Put their PJs on backwards. They Can't get them off, so the diapers stay on!

I put children's underwear over the diaper on my daughter, and that helps. I have heard that duct tape works too!

Hi R..

Welcome to my world! I have b/g twins that will be 2 on September 6th. My girl began taking off her diaper in May and I dealt with it for about a month because, although my pediatrician told me "she's telling you she's ready to potty train", I wasn't. We had a lot going on and I couldn't dedicate 3 days to stay at home and JUST DO IT! Well, I’d finally had enough and things settled down so I potty trained her. It took 2 days to get her accident free during the day and another day or so to get her to dry nights-- their last drink is at dinner and they go down around 7:00pm and are up at 7:00am.

In late July, my son began taking off his diaper and because I had a week long trip planned, I put it off until I returned (my poor caregivers). I began potty training him last Saturday and it took 2 days to get him day trained and he had is first dry morning this morning. We are still getting him up at 2:00am to go but I think we’ll stop that tonight and see how it goes (we did this with Amelia for about a week). He’s doing great. I’ve always heard boys are harder but I’ve not really seen a big difference. Both of them struggled a little with the “poop thing” but they have both overcome it. Changing their environment (Grandma’s house or a big potty) is a little confusing, but they adapt…eventually.

I've never used pull-ups, not even nap time or night. I go straight to panties or underwear. I pull up all my rugs and plan on wiping up pee for a few days and dumping “poopy” underwear a few times. I sit them on their little potty and we sit UNTIL IT HAPPENS. I do not let them get up because I (or they) get bored (I take my I-phone or a book). They fidget, they cry, they investigate their toilet, the ceiling, the wall, and they cry again. With Amelia it took about 30 minutes the first time. Grant took 45! The time shortens throughout the day and by the next day they’ve gotten it figured out. If you let them get up, they’re going to go as soon as you walk out of the bathroom. (my husband didn’t believe me so he tried it). We are very consistent and we stay home the WHOLE time. It’s tough, but it’s only a couple of days.

I chose to do it one child at a time partly because I wasn't convinced Grant was ready, and partly because I couldn't talk myself into the misery of doing both at the same time.

Now mind you, my twins are not talking in sentences. (I always thought they weren't ready until they could say pee-pee or poo-poo). They say one -word and some 2 or 3-word "sentences" (bye-bye momma), but Amelia has now learned to say pee-pee, poo-poo, and potty when she needs to go and she's now going on her own (which is fine until she decides to "dump" the bowl...what a mess)! He’s still new at the game and mostly just comes to me, holding his pants and asks "momma?"

I hate to tell you, R., especially if you're not ready, but I think your twins are telling you it's time. Good luck and remember: consistency is sooo important. This is lengthy, but I had to spell it all out…maybe just to get it off my back…LOL
