This Sunday, our DS took a die cast metal pick up truck 6" long, and flushed it down the toilet, and announced that he had done so. Quite pleased with himself, I might add. His little adventure cost us a $190 plumbing bill.
Any expensive hijinks in your household?

nearly forgot. the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. My husband and BIL apparently flushed my MIL's engagement ring down the toilet as children. All told, I am happy it was a car.
My son was throwing leaves in the air a couple of years ago on Thanksgiving Day. He picked up a rock with the leaves, threw it in the air, and it landed on my husband's windshield. We heard the pop as it hit, but there was no visible mark, no big deal. The next day we had a crack running clear across the windshield. $500 windshield I might add. :/

2 year old decided to get himself some juice without telling us. Dropped the juice pitcher. Ok, no big deal. Cleaned it up.
What we didn't know was that when the pitcher hit the floor, it knocked the filter for the ice and water that is on the bottom of the refrigerator. Knocked it a little crooked, and it wasn't sealing. We also didn't notice that little sound of the water running in the refrigerator.
That was a Saturday morning, and we didn't go anywhere that day or Sunday. Then on Monday, we we went downstairs and the garage roof was falling down on the car. For 2 days, the water had run out, straight between some of the kitchen floorboards, down onto the finished garage ceiling, and ruined it.
I've blocked out how much it cost, but it wasn't good.
My husband had an oops that costs us $2500.
About 6 months after we got my first Mercedes (now daughter's car), he had extra gas in a gas can at home. He routinely put the extra gas in his company car (Jeep Cherokee) at the time. He failed to realize that you can't put any type of leftover gas in a high end car.
Well, I got up, took daughter to school and by the time I got home, my car was dead and would not move. Hubby had already left to make sales calls for the day. I called the dealer, got it towed and a few hours later, we were asked about what was put in the gas tank.
NOW we know that our cars are super sensitive and you never, ever use anything but the highest premium gas in them. Mercedes had to remove my fuel tank and clean out all of the lines. Of course this was not under warranty because hubby caused the issue!
It was an expensive lesson and it has never happened again. For all the years I was training daughter about driving, etc, I stressed that she has to use a specific gas or she'll be stranded!
We love our cars and will not drive another brand but we also know they are sensitive.
When my daughter was about 2 she threw my glasses in the trash. I don't wear them all the time, just mainly when driving. So she got them from no telling where.
She even told me this, the best a two year old could do with her limited vocabulary and hand gestures.
Mind you she told me about 3 hrs after the trash men had come for the day.
Yep, that was a couple of hundred dollars.
My husband once had a temp at our house inputting a large amount of data into his computer while he was out of town (he usually works from home).
The temp dropped her cell phone down our guest toilet.
She never mentioned it until her husband came to the door with a hanger in his hand. Needless to say this was disconcerting. :)
Her husband was not successful and we ended up paying over $100 to get the cell phone out.
No more temps here at our house. :P

My son thought he would help me clean the house and vacuumed up a LEGO brick (the long one) and a Matchbox car in our central vac hose...husband had to cut the hose to get the pieces out....then we had to replace the hose...cost? $225...
then I was using the central vac for the vacuum storage bags? Burned out the motor...my wonderful husband was able to get a new motor on-line and replace it...cost - $200. YIKES!!!
This was several years ago...knock on wood - NOTHING current!
When our son was about 3 yrs old he put a cd into the VCR.
We couldn't figure out why it kept rejecting a tape when ever we tried to put one in.
Finally Hubby got down and took a close look, then got some needle nose pliers to gently remove the cd and wha-la! it was working fine again!
We've been lucky so far! (knock on wood)
I'm just glad he didn't try to reach in and retrieve it. More than one toddler has drowned trying to retrieve a toy that fell into the toilet.
Please lock the bathroom doors!
How will you prevent a second accident like this? Ooh,I'd be locking bathroom doors! Glad you can smile about it now.

When my son was small he flushed a plastic W-shaped letter magnet. Just wide enough to get stuck at the point of the toilet's base and the sewer pipe. It wasn't apparent what happened at first. It took toilet paper (and worse!) getting built up on it before the toilet backed up.
When the drain snake didn't work, I unbolted the toilet from the floor and saw the problem. Ick, ick, ick! Fortunately I didn't need a plumber so this adventure only cost a couple of dollars for a new wax ring.
