I have a 15mo. old little girl that last night was up from 1am until 5am crying intermittenly. I changed her diaper it was wet. I tried to feed her she did not want any food. I tried giving her her sippy cup she threw it across the room. I would lay her down and rub her legs and she would start to dose off. She would then wake herself up crying. I did notice she has the bottom 2 canine teeth coming in. She was running a fever a few days ago but that was following 3 shots at her last well baby check. She acts like something is hurting and I can't figure out what. I'm wondering about growing pains. Has anyone gone thru this and if so what helped the most. Daddy has already called (I'm at work)saying she is cranky. I told him to give tylenol he says that has seem to help some. Please ladies if you have any suggestions. If this continues I will call the dr come tuesday due to this being labor day weekend. Any suggestions please.....TIA

What can I do next?

my son would be up all night when he had ear infections... and he cried all night long, he always had a congested sinuses when he teethed, could be related to the teething. I also had great luck with Teething tablets (you can get them on Walmart, ask the pharmacist if you cant find them) they helped a lot!!! best of luck S., married to a EMT-P ;)

My 16 month old is slowly getting her canines too. These have been the worst--even worse than the molars!

I agree with Tammy. Motrin has always worked better than Tylenol for my boys, and you can alternate Motrin and Tylenol also. If she starts tugging on her ears, go ahead and take her in to Carenow or some other clinic that is open on the weekend. It could be an ear infection, and you don't want her to be miserable longer than necessary. They could give her numbing drops. Whatever is bothering her, I hope she feels much better soon so you can both get some rest!

I'm really sorry I don't have any advice to give (and apparently neither does anyone else) but I did want to tell you that my 15 month old went through the exact same thing and about the time I was ready to pull my hair out she just stopped and resumed like normal. It took about one full week of every night crying - wailing and screaming. I was literally figting with her one night and then I gave up after she kicked me in the stomach twice (I'm four months pregnant). I know she didn't do it on purpose and doens't know what she is doing but it was a really traumatic time for us all. Hang in there - I hope it gets better.

It could be an ear infection. When my son gets them he has trouble sleeping and is not interested in food. Hope it gets better soon!

If she's teething that might be what's keeping her up. The Hyland's Teething Tablets worked great for my girls when we were going through this.

when the teeth are coming in and you give her tylenol - save the last of the dose and rub it into the gums. It works wonders.

Watch her carefully as this could be a vaccine reaction. Also look up the vaccines she was given and find out the potential side effects. Tylenol depletes glutathione for 21 days which is what the body needs to detoxify itself. Motrin may be a better choice. Most people, including doctors, overlook vaccine reactions. As my son is autistic I know many, many people whose children had vaccine reactions. I'm not saying this to scare you--just look into it so you can rule it out.

Have you considered food allergies? My son (now a happy, healthy 8 year old) was an absolutely miserable child -- crying all day and especially at night. My first doctor suggested that it was me who didn't know how to soothe my child. The doctor was wrong and my son was eventually diagnosed with allergies to milk, eggs, wheat, nuts, soy -- every thing he was getting from breast milk, formula or table foods was causing him extreme abdominal pain. When he cried, he would arch his back and struggle to get away from me and anything else touching him. What makes you think she is in pain? Trust your instincts.

L., I have a 16 month old son and we are experiencing this also. I think it is partially the canine teeth coming in, and partially his increased awareness of his surroundings. I prefer Motrin for bedtime pain relief.
What do we do?? I go comofort him- pick him up and cuddle for a few minutes, then I put him back in the crib. We have had nights where he cries for 1-3 hrs, but he ususally will go back to sleep after 30-60 minutes. Dad prefers to hold him and cuddle him until he falls asleep again. Whatever the situation- we NEVER go to him more that 3 times (so mean, I know). After the third wake up, he is on his own. We rarely get to 3 times.
Why do they do this??? Probably because the world is SO exciting now and they can't stand to be asleep.

Hyland's teething tablets work great. They are homeopathic.

Have you considered the possibility of an ear infection? I learned the hard way that it hurts them more to lay down when they have one. Also, my daughter tends to only get ear infections when she's teething. It's just a thought! Good luck!

Could be a reaction to the vaccinations. (I hope not) More than likely, it is the teething or ear infection. Motrin helps, but if she does this a second night, it would be worth it to take her in to see if it is an ear infection.
Ear infections usually have a runny nose along with it.

hI! I feel your pain!

If the teeth that are coming out are hurting it is much better to give them Motrin since it takes care of the pain and also it is an anti-inflammatory...try it next time...it might make a huge difference!

Good luck!
