15 Week Old, Cradle Cap Inside Ear Passages

My daughter has cradle cap inside her ears- not just the lobes, but all the way inside her ears towards the drum. The doctor said it is so full of dead skin, pus, and scales that she couldn't even see the eardrum. I clean her ears regularly, and even though I saw stuff in her ears, I would never insert anything in there to clean it out. Anyway, the doctor was unable to clear out enough of the debris to fully open the passage. The smell is AWFUL- like sour milk. The infection is an outer ear infection, probably due to the inflammation of the cradle cap. I was given some antibiotic/cortisone drops to help clear it out, but the smell is WORSE after putting the drops in. I was also given an oral antibiotic. Have you mom's had a baby with this? If so, how long did it take to resolve? I read that cradle cap can take years to resolve, and I worry about her hearing with all that junk in there!
Thanks!

What can I do next?

If she has cradle cap outside her ears, too, I recommend taking her to a dermatologist. This sounds pretty severe.
If it's only in her ears, then I recommend an ENT doctor. You mentioned the doctor wasn't able to "fully open the passage", which implies to me that he couldn't see her eardrum.
I think that to really know what the problem is, they have to be able to see all the way down. ENTs have tiny suctions they can use to help clear debris.

My son (now 13 months) had it in his ears, but not to that extent. It pretty much went away around 8 months of age. But I still have to clean out his ears every two or three days because he gets a lot of ear wax. Just do the best you can to keep it clean and follow your doctors advice. It will clear up eventually.

My daughter had bad cradle cap that was on her earlobes, thankfully didn't go in the ear. I used some hydrocortisone CREAM, and that was the only way I could help it. Maybe put a baby q-tip (those with the budge so they only "just" go in) with the cream on it in her ear? If you can calm it down, it might be easier to maintain it, rather than fixing it (sorry don't have much help with that). Also, with antibiotics, make sure that you are doing a probiotic and watch for a yeast infection. If you are breastfeeding, it can transfer to your nipple from his mouth (thrush), or in the diaper area.

You may want to consult an ear, nose, and throat doc via phone if there is anything that they can do for her. I'm so sorry that she is having to go through this!

please don't use oil on it. people think it is from dry skin and it is really from to much oil. if you will mix some baking soda and warm water together and apply it to the area and let it sit a few min. then start wiping it off with a warm washcloth i think you will be surprised at how easy you can remove it. if it doesn't clear up you may need to go to an ENT. they can get it out. good luck, R.

My son has problems with severe ear wax build-up. My pediatrician has me put stool softener in his ears somewhat frequently, and then about every two months, I take him to the office so my pediatrician can easily (because of the stool softener) pull all the huge hunks of ear wax out of his ears. I'm not sure if this method will work this cradle's cap or not though.

My son (age 5) still gets cradle cap, but if I keep up with it is does not get bad. Once you have it cleared up it is easier to prevent outbreaks and treat as soon as one starts before it gets bad. I brush my sons hair with a natural Bristle brush before each bath to loosen any dead skin cells, but I am not sure how to prevent it in the ears.
