Wondering About Childcare Services in Thornton CO Area

We're moving to Thornton CO at the end of March. Up until now, my sister has been able to watch my child. I am nervous about putting him into childcare - but hoping that it will be good for him. He is 18 months old. I would appreciate any recommendations in the area - or any "stay away from this place" stories. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your advise! When we moved in, our neighbor told me that she was available to watch my boy for me until next fall. Meanwhile, we're signing him up for "A Child's Touch", to start in the fall.

Hi A.! I have found the most AMAZING childcare...and trust me, I looked all over!!! Check out 'A Child's Touch'!!! It is owned by a Christian couple with degrees in early childhood ed, elementary ed and special needs ed and has been in business since 1977!!! The facility is a childs wonderland and their staff are wonderful, caring, loving people (with a very low turn-over rate which says alot!!!) I really can't say enough positive about this childcare! If you want more info just let me know!!!

A.,

I've done a few different places in Thornton... a home care center (now out of business), a neighbor (changed her mind and wanted to do other things), and a center (Bullfrogs & Butterflies). My boys are now almost 2 & 5 yr old. The home care was great when they were infants, but as they have gotten older I think they do very well in the center. The nice thing about a center is that they are almost always open -- they have the staff to be available -- whereas a home care will close if the owner is sick, or drop off/pick up times are less flexible, or may want days off that don't fit well with your work schedule.

I do recommend our center. It is christian based and has classrooms for all ages. As your child gets older, you can enroll in their pre-k and/or kindergarten classes.

If you prefer a home care setting, then definitely get a list of licensed places from the state.

I hope this helps -- and welcome to Thornton!

Check into qualistar. They are a non-profit who rates childcare centers and licensed in-home providers and are connected to a referral service. Good luck.
