Women's Bookclub

I've been in a bookclub for many years, and really enjoy our friendships. Our rules are very simple.
1. book should be in paperback (doesn't have to, but cheaper if you want to buy it, and now with e-books not such an issue)
2. If it's at your house, you pick the book. Our bookclub travels house to house, we all live close.
3. you don't have to finish the book , just show up we like the company, but know that the ending will be discussed.
4. one classic a year
5. we like red wine better than white. : )

We find that if we have a variety of people picking books, then we all expand what we would normally read. Some libraries have bookclub kits, you can check out the same book, and have 6 weeks to read it. Some of our members pick from the NPR book reviews, other from bookclub web-links, it varies. Two favorites from this year are Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

We have a bookclub in our neighborhood, and I try to go as much as possible. We just read "Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt" by Beth Hoffman. That is funny, a lot like the book you describe. Our bookclub has a meeting at the beginning of the year and everyone suggests books, then they pick from that. Lots of times it is a non fiction book, which I have a hard time loving to read. I like a page turner!! Our club usually has sign ups, as to who will be the host. They usually do it in the evening, with snacks and wine or whatever, and talk about the book and rate it. Does your library have book club kits you can check out? My library does and I get about 10 books. I posted on FB about a year ago to see who was interested. I made a private group on FB where I post about 4 choices of books and have people vote on them. We meet once a month at a restaurant since it's easier since we all have kids. Our meetings usually last about 2 hours and only about 15 minutes is spent discussing the actual book. LOL
