White Bumps on the Backs of My Arms! What Is This???

Hi Mamas,

I have developed small white bumps on the backs of my upper arms. They are like small little white heads or something. I can squeeze them and they pop. One friend said they are ingrown hairs. But they are all over and I hate them. Any advice of what these are or how to get rid of them would be appreciated. I use lotion everyday and I also use a scrub brush in the shower.

What can I do next?

Those little rough red or white bumps that annoyingly plaque the backs of arms and sometimes the thighs are called "keratosis pilaris." They're not acne, it's actually a genetic follicular skin condition that's also known as "chicken skin" because of it's resemblance to, well, chicken skin. A cream made with urea like callous softener sometimes helps.
My Son's went away after taking a pharmaceutical grade Omega III for about 3 weeks. We purchased them through our physician but you can get them at this site: http://www.visionary-wellness.com. Under products in the heart health section. Good luck, hope this helps.

There are three things worth a try:

A viamin A deficiency will show as bumps on the back of upper arms. try taking Cod liver oil daily. Make sure you are eating enough meat/eggs- as animal fat converts to vit A better than carotenoids from veggies/fruits.

Copper can help. Specifically, there are pools that have copper ions used to sanitize them instead of bleach products. Swimming in copper ions in pools will stop the outbreaks and clear them up.

HIGH estrogen could be a culprit. Birth control, soy and corn products, lotions with PARABENS, Chlorine in drinking tap water and pools and showers can all be estrogenic. Reduce estrogen products as much as possible, then take progestille (a progesterone mimicer) that will oppose the estrogen and keep it lower. Take raw virgin coconut oil by mouth - it will also help the body make progesterone.

I had them with both of my children. They drove me crazy!!! On top of everything else (extra weight, sleep deprived, new priorities) I was embarrasssed to show my arms!

They go away...do not worry...one day you will realize they are gone, never to return!

Try Neutrogena Rain Bath...it really helped me!

My daughter and my niece have that. We use Amlactin lotion on it and that seems to help. I bought it at my local CVS. it is a bit expensive, but I think there is a coupon for it at the CVS website.

It is Keratosis Pilaris. I never had it until after my son was born. There is a scrub/lotion sold at Sephora called KP Dutty. Or you can go to a dermatologist and they usually have a lotion/scrub. It never goes away, just gets better from time to time.

Hi there,
I have them too occasionally. I asked my dermatologist about them, he told me their medical name (complicated) but said that they are harmless, and there's not much you can do about them.
I just googled it and it sounds like it's Keratosis Pilaris- http://comfydiva.tribe.net/thread/29c954f0-4c15-4bd7-bc4b...

Good luck. I think it's just one of those things we have to live with.

Pretty much what Erin said. I've had them since puberty (bleg!) and have gotten better as I age. I find during hormonal times they are in abundance.
