My son just turned 1 and I am having problems on what kinds of table food to feed him. Any suggestions on what types of food to offer him? He is still taking mostly jarred baby food. I have tried scrambled eggs, french toast sticks, grilles cheese, mac'n cheese but with little success. Thanks for any suggestions

What can I do next?

Meatloaf and mashed potatoes (with whatever veggie works for you). And don't forget to get out the camera!!!

Don't give up on the scrambled eggs, or any other food for that matter. Sometimes kids need multiple exposures to the new foods before they get to like it. Keep introducing them over and over. Good luck!!

Our ped told us that by the time the baby is 1, s/he should be eating a smaller version of what we eat. So, if you're having chicken and green beans for dinner -- he'd have the same, just cut into small pieces. My kids favorites were sweet potatoes (baked and cubed), yogurt, cheese cut in little cubes, green beans, peas, rice, pasta with red sauce or cheese sauce, little meat balls (made from ground beef or ground turkey) and any kind of fruit -- either cut small or slightly steamed and them mashed or cut if it's a really firm fruit (like apples). For lunch I made little sandwiches of cream cheese and jam or mashed avocado, tuna, mini pizzas (whole grain english muffin with a little red sauce and mozzerella baked until the cheese melted). Check out the book "First Meals" by Annabel Karmel. There are a lot of great ideas in there.

One tip -- both my kids loved to dip things. So, if they wouldn't eat veggies I'd give them hummus to dip the veggies in or dressing (ranch and french are their favs). Also, cut up fruit to dip in yogurt. It helps them develop their coordination for using utensils later, too.

My son hated baby food and always loved any food that had a bit of flavor to it. My mom found me a Food Mill by KidCo and it was a lifesaver! Basically, you fill the tube with adult food, and turn the handle - it grinds the food into a consistency that 1 year olds can eat easily (the best I can describe it is somewhat like sausage). In fact my mom gave it to me right before we took my son on vacation with us and he ate from our plates the whole week. We ended up giving all the baby food we brought to our favorite server at the hotel! The only thing is if the protein is dry, you may want to put a splash of chicken/vegetable broth in it, just to add some moisture. Otherwise, it was fantastic for my son. Here is a link on Target's website, if you would like to check it out. Good Luck!

Yo baby yogurt was my kids favorite .They ate alot of it. You can try plain pasta(lightly buttered),bananas, mandarin oranges, cubed peaches, bits of cheese(mozzerella or provelone ),puffs(baby),cottage cheese , mashed potatoes, etc. When I started to give my kids table food. I still continued to give them some baby veggies because they loved them and I knew they would stop eating them whole. Ketchup on anything works too especially eggs and grilled cheese:)
