Hello all!

What kind of food do you feed your toddler during the day for lunch, dinner etc? My son is somewhat picky and doesn't like pasta's and things because of the texture. He eats a lot of yogurt, and he loves fruits, and veggies.

Any ideas? Doesn't have to be anything fancy but some new ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter really likes tortillas, so we do lots of things in whole wheat tortillas- cream cheese, peanut butter, melted cheese, hummus, beans. She's getting pickier and pickier, but still likes to tortillas!

Mine is picky as well. We always offer her what we are eating, but also try to push higher calorie/fat/ protein foods.

Cottage cheese is great for protein and fat (which mine needs lots of). At first I blended it up really smooth with my hand blender (she is a texture kid too) until she got used to the taste, but now she just shovels the 'small curd' kind in by the handful. I get the 4% milkfat kind too. YUMMY.

Pancakes and waffles are good for lunch or dinner.

I love to make this 'farmers breakfast' for lunch or dinner.:

This brown sugar meatloaf was a huge hit, and she usually doesn't like meat. She LOVES to dip anything into ketchup.

sliced Deli meat and roasted chickens are good too.

Mine loves tomato/lasagna sauce, so I mix that with ground beef or turkey and spinach. He eats it with pasta or potatoes. He likes lima beans and carrots and apples.

My 2 year old is a picky eater and dont like pasta either.and because of it he dont eat as healthy as he should. For breakfast he may eat the fruit and cream oatmeal, cold cereal or waffles/pancakes/ jelly toast/ a small amount of eggs and breakfast meat like bacon or sausage.
For lunch he eat pbj sandwiches with applesauce cup and milk, tuna/chicken salad on bread with chips and juice, chicken fingers/fishsticks with a fruit cup and juice, beaie weanies, simple easy to make things like that.
For dinner I fix him a smaller porton of whatever everyone else is having. I donot cook 2 meals. Who does that? Some parents do I guess. If he's hungry he will eat. He dontlike water so I add ALOT of water to his juice. For snacks we do yogurt, fruits, chewy granola bars... He donot like veggies and will not eat them. So Igive him a vitamin everyday. His appetite increased when he started the vitamins. Enfamil vitamin drops are good or Flintstones First.

One of my DD's favorite meals is to scramble an egg, toss in some veggies, and toss in some meat. Top it with ketchup and she is happy. :)

My kid is pretty happy to eat the following - tuna fish salad, egg salad, potato salad, sweet corn chutney, garbanzo beans. those dried pea snacks, quesadillas, enchiladas, bagels, dahl, creamed spinach, pizza, cashew nuts, corn on the cob, watermelon, PBJ, meatballs, pretzels, crackers, those squeezie pouches of fruit and veg, pears, oranges, bananas, yogurt, cottage cheese, most cereals.

What he really likes is asking for a taste of whatever is on our plates.

Yours hates pasta. Mine hates chicken nuggets.

Go figure.

I invested in a food dehydrator when my son was a toddler. I made him banana chips, apple chips and strawberries. I also would use it to make dried fruit for trail mix. He also liked wraps but instead of tortillas I rolled out some whole wheat bread and used that. Also beans, pretty much any kind. For dinners he ate whatever we ate. My son grew up in AZ and since I LOVE Mexican food he does too! When ever I make salsa he will eat it just as it is. Oh and chili is another good dish. You can put soooo much good stuff in it, I like to use ground turkey or chicken add some homemade salsa, store bought is fine also, add beans and puréed tomoatoes and chopped tomatoe, onion, corn, and zucchini.

Not sure the age of your toddler, but my girl is 3.5 and she eats whatever we're eating (occassionally with slight variations). She started eating smaller versions of our food around age 1.5 when we realized that packaged baby food is just for convenience... So, at daycare they do breakfast & lunch (which are pretty similar meals to what we eat at home) and we do 3 meals on weekends and dinner on weeknights. Really, whatever we're eating is what goes on her plate. If it's spicy (or a sauce she doesn't like), I'll make a "naked" version for her (minus chile, bbq sauce, etc). Or, if it's something she doesn't really like, I'll sprinkle cheese on it (potatoes, some meat dishes, etc). She is just expected to eat what's in front of her. She has always been a very good eater, though, so we haven't suffered through the "picky" stages. I am wary of allowing them to choose their food after seeing how my 2 nephews are growing up--both refuse to eat anything besides chicken nuggets & fries (and anything sweet)!
We (usually) eat 1 meat, 1 starch, and 1-2 veggies with dinner, our go-to favorites are burgers, meatloaf, chicken strips, baked chicken, pork chops, steak, stroganoff; mashed/baked potatoes, brown rice, cornbread stuffing; corn, peas, green beans, lima beans, broccoli.
Lunch is much simpler, when we have lunch (on the weekends) it's usually either a late breakfast or just a sandwich, burger, leftovers, with a side (chips, salad, yogurt, fruit).
Breakfast on weekdays is a bagel sandwich, frozen sandwich, poptart (so sue me, it's quick and easy), granola bar, or cereal. Weekends, I go all-out, eggs, bacon/sausage, hashbrowns, pancakes/waffles.
Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but it's what works for us!
Good luck!
