What Are YOUR Father's Day Plans for Your Man?

I'm interested in what all the other Mamas out there are doing for their men. What are some of your gifts ideas? Date plans? Special stuff for the day?

For me; I have ordered a shirt for each of us (except Hubby) that says "TEAM (HIS NAME)" on the front, and then "Daddy's Biggest Fan" on the back of mine, with an "01" ... and then so on and so forth for each of the kids. Our newest addition has a newborn onesie that says "Daddy's Littlest Fan" on the back, with his number on it.

We're all going to wear them on Sunday. Aside from this, I don't know what else to do. I am going to make a good dessert (his fave) but I'd like to get him a nice gift... I mean something for him - but I'm at a loss.

A flask? a cigar cutter? Cigars? ...a tie?? Only I can know whats best to get him - but I'm hoping that some of your gifts will jog my memory or give me an idea. So!... what are you guys getting yours?

So What Happened?

I would LOVE to have a great night of sex - even a get away weekend, but I just had a baby last friday (6/4/10) so sex is pretty much out of the question for at least another few weeks until I can get the 'Ok' from my OB.

Letting him do whatever he wants is a good idea but we already have a relationship like that... what I mean is, he never really has to ask to do anything or get me to "let" him to anything. I actually kicked him out of the house a few weeks ago to go camping before the new baby came.

I think we might end up making him a cute cake or something and doing a gift card or something so he can pick out some stuff he wants to buy, but wouldn't just go and purchase on his own. He's been talking about wanting a sports jacket for a while... so maybe a trip to a tailor or something.

Keep 'em coming though, i will continue to check responses!

I will honestly tell all of you what most men will say is the best gift of all. This may be TMI for some, but I'm just giving an honest and silly answer. They all love a little gift, card, whatever, but the best for men is a great night of sex!!! Just try it and see what they say.

Is that how you make a marriage or a divorce?

I know I struggle every year on what to do or give my wife for mother's day. Sometimes I grab the brass ring. Sometimes I miss it entirely. Two years ago I saved enough money to plan her whole day. I bought some oranges and made fresh squeezed OJ. I took her out for breakfest at IHOP for her favorite waffles, then to a place that stimulated parachute jumping by using a wind tunnel, then for a couples massage. Then we went to her favorite restaurant for dinner, then off to a movie. She was busy the entire day and said she had a wonderful time. Last year she had things she had to do so she was off on her own. When she got home I gave her a massage and had a candle light dinner I cooked for her. It was a lousy day.

But you asked what you could do for him. The best gift is when you give of yourself. But since you just had a baby (Congratulations BTW.) you can't go too far. Get the book, "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands" and follow it. It will be "Father's day" for the rest of his life. You could give him the book, "101 Nights of Great Sex" and a rain check. It will make him smile and give him something to look forward to.

Good Luck to you and yours.

My husband never ever buys me anything or does anything special for me on mothers day or any other special event or holiday. Not even our wedding anniversary so this subject is a bit hard for me personally. However as always I end up doing "something" for him in the end because that is who I am. Even though I feel taken advantage of and not appreciated when these special things come about its not worth it I guess to cry over. There have been many tears and broken hearts throughout the years but I don't put any expectations there anymore so therefore when the day comes the disappointment isn't there.
I have just come to terms that my husband is not a romantic and most men are clueless when it comes to this subject-there are a few that actually do it right but unfortunately my husband is not one of those men. For whatever reasons......
I think what you have already done is enough considering that he isn't "your" father but it is what you want to do for him and because you do love and appreciate him and we all have different levels/ways of showing this. You could cook him a nice breakfast or perhaps go out to breakfast or dinner. That in itself "should" be enough to show you appreciate him being such a great father to your children or wash his car. I would point blank ask him what he wanted to do that day because he may want to spend the day with his family (which in my opinion he should because if it weren't for his family he wouldn't even be celebrating that day in the first place) but he is there every day so it wouldn't be a bad idea to have his day with his buddies if he wants. He could share his day between both but let him decide because I sure as heck wouldn't want my "own" day to be planned out from hour to hour unless it was something really romantic that my husband came up with as a surprise but I know that will NEVER happen.
Its a shame that the majority of men don't do more for the women involved in their lives but all I can say is in the end does it really matter?

I did for my husband as I want him to do for me - I asked him what he wants as a gift and what he wants to do on *his* special day. As long as it is reasonable (he's not getting the Corvette, sorry) I'll honor his request.

For a gift I am getting him a leather portfolio for work. On Sunday, when he wakes up he gets to decide what we want to do for the day even if that means he goes golfing with friends or has time to himself or play with the kids or we all go out to eat. It's Father's Day so it is entirely up to him.

I'm shocked at the bitter responses on here! Remember, on Father's Day he is not your father...and on Mother's Day you are not his mother - so gifts technically come from the children. And some of these women wonder why their men either don't get it or don't care...I'd be put off by such attitudes, too!

First, congrautlations on the new baby!
We went to kodakgallery.com and made a photo book all about him (we titled it The ABC's of Daddy because we're working on the alphabet with our son. In it, I typed a short note saying what he means to us and the motivation behind the book, with things my 3 year old said as I interviewed him over the period of serveral days (a question here and there), typed exactly as he says it, so it's more from a child's point of view about his dad. Then each page has A is for __ and pictures with him in it that go with the words we came up with for each letter. The shipping was pretty fast, and it came back looking awesome! We also made a stepping stone with my 6 month old's footprint and my 3 year old's footprint, staggered, which the 3 year old decorated in little mosaic stones and marbles (because my husband IS a gardener!).
Something we do every year for mother's day since my oldest was 1, that could be an idea for you is an annual work of art. We go to Michael's and get a canvas that's about the size of an 8x10. I paint the canvas a background color (his fave color the first time was yellow, last year we did green because that's what he said, and this year he's all about purple). After the background color dries, I'll give him some paints and let him paint a masterpiece for me (but I supervise and help him rinse the brushes). Then you can spray a sealant over it to help preserve it. It's neat to see the different colors, styles, and ability levels as he grows. And since a few moms had to whine about not getting something on Mother's Day, I have to say doing something like this is a fun project to do as a mom, with your children, that takes a 2-3 days (short little bursts of time each day so little ones don't lose interest), and you'll always have a gift because it's in your own hands. You don't have to feel "mom guilt" for doing so because it costs less than $10 if you've already got paints and brushes for other projects throughout the year.
We will make our own father's day card this week.
Those are the GIFTS. What we are DOING for Father's Day: We're going to the early service at church (as always), and then coming home for a snack, opening his gifts, and then a nap (what he always wants but rarely gets). My 3 year old wants to get ready for a "party" but a party at his age means balloons and cake. So while my husband naps, we'll set up balloons and get ready for a BBQ, with festive table cloths, napkins, serving trays, etc (like we would for any summer party). I'm making his favorite treat: apple cheesecake, and we're having a BBQ and I'll have most of my part done the day before: our special BBQ sauce, baked beans, potato salad, spinach-artichoke dip and sliced baguettes, adult drinks in the fridge. His friend/coworker and his family (kids are the same age as ours!) are coming over and will bring kid drinks and a vegetable dish. We're going to go swimming and play awhile, then the men can BBQ the chicken and then we'll have a fun feast.

My guy loves food and money best. So I will make him his fave dish and give him some $$. He would also like a gift card to a book store a lot, I might actually do that now that I am thinking about it. I love the t-shirt idea:) I think you are on the right track as it is!

He's getting the same thing I got for Mothers Day, a day to do whatever he wants. I spent Mothers Day with my mom, I took her out to lunch and went shopping with her while he stayed home with our son all day. He got me a card from him and one from my 2 year old. For Fathers Day he is taking his dad out to breakfast and golfing. I don't play on buying him anything, I don't really see a reason for it. The way I look at it is, our son is too young to even know whats going on, so until then we spend mothers/fathers day with our parents or doing whatever it is we want to do. I think what you're doing is cute though :)

other than all the above, i got him a surf board and cards from each one of us.
happy fathers day to ME

I must be a minority here. My husband gets things from me for our anniversary (dating and marraige), Valentines Day and Christmas. I send my Father a card for Fathers Day. My daughter will make him a card and hopefully they will have time to do something together, we may go to a church picnic but really he isn't my Father. I don't expect him to go all out for Mothers day either, my daughter makes me a card and tries to make me breakfast, that is all I could ask for :)

We got him some books on cd, because he has a job that involves driving around for several hours each day. I'm currently on the hunt for a picture frame the right size, but I intend to frame a picture of him with our little girl, and on the other side of the frame, put an "interview" I did with her, of questions about her daddy.

I am tempted to get him the silver heart bracelet I wanted for our anniversary and the ipod I wanted for Mother's Day...but alas that would be petty.

He will get some chocolates his favorite brand that is a bit more expensive...and a gift card to our local international tea shop. He is a huge tea drinker and loves to experiment with different types of loose teas. I would splurge and get him an expensive tea pot, but I have no idea which one would work best. He can pick it out.

Cards of course...probably homemade as he could careless about the actual card...but I like to write him a nice letter about what he means to me and the kids.

Or should I buy him the coffee maker I wanted for my birthday? I write these tongue and cheek as every major holiday he does not remember cards or gifts...EVER!! But I love him too much not to honor him on his special day...and every day for that matter, but boy do I wish I could get him to buy presents too.

I got mine matching "Big Man/Little Man" t-shirts for him and our 10-month-old son. Also, he has been saying that he needs to take some pics of the little guy into work so I framed a pic that I got of his 9-month pics that says "World's Greatest Dad" ... then we will go out to dinner wherever he wants and maybe go play a round of disc golf or something seeing as that is his big thing lately. ;-) Good luck!
