So What Happened?

Thanks Everyone! Great ideas... Unfortunately, my hubby is so gadget oriented that he already has all the latest gadgets... he's not into golf, hunting, or sports (ugh!) so great ideas, but they wouldn't work for him. I ended up getting my vows etched in wood (went to an awards/plaques store) and for the silverware part of it, ordered a steak-branding iron with his initials since he loves to cook steaks on the grill. I think I will still take the suggestions to go out to dinner, and I think I'll find a night when my little guy and I and the dogs can stay with my mom so J can get a decent night's sleep without any interruptions. All wonderful ideas and I greatly appreciate them! The balloon idea was wonderful, but I did something similar for our first Valentine's Day... it was a big hit back then. =) You all are quite the creative bunch. I wish more of you lived in El Paso. Would love to meet up at an area park for a walk sometime. Thanks and God Bless each of you!

I suggest something that he's interested in (some have mentioned sporting events, etc.). Steer clear of sentimental things - that works for us, but not usually for men (they say thanks, but really don't care much for the mushy stuff).

I don't know how "big" or significant kinds of gifts you give for anniversaries... Hallmark has these very pretty mugs right now that come in a set of two. They say "I still do" and "I still do, too". We are coffee drinkers, so they made a great Valentines Day gift. They'd be an even better anniversary gift. They also have mugs that say "I do" and "Me, too". Cute.

The gifts that I have gotten my husband of 15 yrs, that he likes best, are things like golf range passes or golf course passes or fishing license w/ "daddy/hubby" coupons that he can use for a free day of golf or fishing with no nagging:). If your hubby likes video games, consider getting him Gamefly--its kind of like Netflix but for video games.

Congrats! Best wishes for many more years of happiness!

I don't know if money is an issue or not, but one of my husband's favorite gifts was I gave him a foot massage and a pedicure at home. I set the stage with candles, relaxing music, his favorite drink and I put a towel on the floor in our bedroom. We kept the conversation very casual. He's in law enforcement and he spends all day on his poor feet. At first he was ticklish, but he relaxed and he felt very pampered. It turned out to be a very intimate gift that he really enjoyed. Don't know if this will work or not, but you might keep it in mind!

Try some electronic gadget, a new ipod, a new iphone, or sporting event tickets, spurs, a trip to see the Houston Astros etc.

Congrats!!!

The gifts for 5th year anniversary are Traditional: Wood / Modern: Silverware. What is his hobby and more?

My husband loves wine and BBW. On our 5th anniversarary- I bought him Wood and glass frame for the wine corks collections and Silverware BBQ set from Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma.

Good luck!!

If you have a 3 month old, you may not be sleeping through the night. Get a babysitter, candlelight, and a hotel room for an afternoon...do what married couples do and sleep deeply until it's time to take the babysitter home. I doubt your husband could think of anything better.
It will bless the marriage and any qualms with leaving the baby should be lost in the idea of what baby needs most is a strong bond between mommy and daddy.

Happy anniversary to you!

I don't know if you and your husband do the "theme" gifts for the year or not, but for year 5 the gifts are Traditional: Wood / Modern: Silverware.

With a baby that new, I doubt that you have been "out on the town" without the baby. So, go with the Silverware theme and plan a dinner out that will be a nice way for you to relax together. If you aren't up for a big night out, then make a really special meal at home using your wedding china (that most of us rarely use along with your wedding silverware). Perhaps you can make some of the favorites that you served at your wedding? Turn the TV off and put on some romantic music or watch the video of your wedding or look through the photo album and talk about how much your life has changed since that day.

Other ideas: with the wood theme, you could get him a wooden keepsake box.... I got my hubby a really nice one from Levenger that was engraved but you won't have time for that, but perhaps a store could do it.... maybe even Things Remembered?

Does your husband have a good friend that he hasn't seen in a while? Best man from the wedding? You could surprise him with his friend!

I hope that these things get you thinking, post-pregnancy brain is difficult to jump start sometimes.

Congrats on your big day.
blessings,
stacy

I think that some sort of new electronic gadget might be cool. I would also go for something really sweet also in addition to that- My honey sent me a message in the bottle on our anniversary and I thought it was the sweetest thing.

My old man is really into music so I got him a guitar but I realize not all guys like this stuff. He is also a lover of fishing so my next suggestion would be a fishing pole and a gift card so he can get his bait. A new fishing chair or anything that relates. I have also found that doing things like (this sounds very corny but my ex old man loved it) I got a bag of balloons and wrote on little pieces of paper things I loved about him. I put them in the balloons and got a free card from the flower department in grocery store (i had very little money that year) and put a safety pin in the card and filled the front of his car with the balloons and wrote in the card within these balloons will reveal something I love about you. I have done variations of this with my current old man and he really appreciates the creativity. Men want to act tough but they want to know you love them as much as we do....Hope this helps...

You would have to hurry! I don't know if you wanted a sentimental gift, but for my last anniv. (our 7th) I made a photo book on samsclub.com. You can do them anywhere such as kodak, walgreens, CVS, etc... I found photos from the day we met to the present. I just made a book about 'through the years' with captions about our memories. I also included a page for each of our children when they were born. I also scanned some postcards, letters, cards, etc.. that had personal handwriting to put in places instead of a photo. I though he would think it was cheesy but he loved it and was glad I had put so much thought into it. Now we have a book for both of us to cherish and pass down to our kiddos.

What are his hobbies and / or interests?

My husband and I send each other emails with links of various things we would like to have and we save them to refer back to when gift giving approaches.

Guille is correct about some gadget if he is into that. Maybe a new cell phone, GPS, or digital video camera.

Does he like golf? Playtime with a friend could be fun. Maybe paintball with a group of his friends?

Does he like to grill out? Get him his own stuff for grilling. They have all kinds of inexpensive stuff for making out door cookiing fun and easy. Try Bed, Bath and Beyond and use the weekly coupon in the paper to get things for less. My husband liked his apron, spray bottle, fish and veggie basket with shiska-bob thingies, with a 6 pack of his favorite beer and he is set and you don't have to cook tonight, it's a win, win situation.

I got my hubby a mag subscription to a magazine that he always looks at at the store. Other years I've gotten him a wallet, watch or just made him breakfast or took him to a restaurant I know he likes and I hate! lol. Good luck.

My husband and I plan to revisit where we had our honeymoon on our 5 yr but with a newborn I know it's hard just to get out even for a few hours. But maybe you can treat him to his fav restaurant or relive how he proposed and visit the places ya'll went to. Or if he's really into a certain sport, take him to a game or buy him tickets as a gift so you and he can go together or maybe he can take a friend...something that he loves to do. I recently surprised my husband to a nice dinner and overnight stay at a very nice hotel...he had no idea. I set clues in envelopes everywhere which hinted for him to get dressed up and included nice pictures of me in them also. Then I had a limo pick him up and take him to the restaurant where I was waiting for him. All along he had no idea where he was going...he was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully this helps a little. Keep us posted on how it goes!!! Congrats on your 5 yr!!!!

My idea is kind of cheesy....I got my husband a set of wine glasses with each year on it. What makes it fun now is when we look at the glasses and say 'what year do you have'...and it's fun with our guests who always ask "what's with the year?"
I'm sure he'll appreciate anything you give him

I got my husband an "of the month" club. I bought him beer of the month, and I think next time I'm going to buy fudge. He loved it so much he bought his father a pasta of the month club. It's so much fun that he has something to look forward to at the end of every month, he's like a kid rushing home to say, "is it here yet?" We went with amazingclubs.com and have been really pleased.

If he cooks out a lot, how about a personalized apron? Go to www.baseyembroidery.com and you can see a sample!

Oh Alyssa! I know what you are talking about, I run out of ideas for my husband for anniversary and fathers day! I always try to get him something more "meaningful" for those occassions, you know because birthdays and christmas are for stuff he wants and needs like clothes, and hunting stuff, etc..but honestly, he has liked gifts like that so much more than the "special" personalized things I have gotten him! I don't know if your husband is into golf, but last year I got my husband a personlized divot tool with ball markers that was stainless steel and had our last name ingraved on it, and he loves that. And I got him a cigar humidor box and three really nice cigars. And personalized grilling apron, or those wine glasses that don't have stems (they have them at world market) my husband likes those because they don't have the stems, and he thinks they look like "man" glasses! LOL-he doesn't have to know they are for men or women, i think he just feels more masculine not holding a stemmed glass! Always a good gift if money isn't a problem is to plan a surprise trip or weekend getaway - i did this for my husband's birthday and made it a place he could play golf two days at a beautiful course (and i went to the spa!) good luck!

Get a professional picture taken of you and the baby together and frame it for him. Maybe get an engraved frame to personalize it for him.

Good Luck,
