Weird or Odd Headaches...

Lately, I've been having odd headaches. I'm used to headaches at the base of my neck on the left side of my head.. that's where my migraines start. I of course get the usual headaches like most of us get... I get the sinus headaches... but in the couple last days I've gotten this weird headache that is at the top of my head and is intense.... It sometimes goes to the base of my skull (near my spine). I take Excederin and it helps, doesn't make it go away....Anyone have have any thoughts on what's causing this or what I can do to combat this? Any ideas/thoughts are welcome!!!!

What can I do next?

Have you recently cut back on caffine? Caffine withdrawal can cause the type of headache you are describing.

If you have any concern I would talk to your doctor, so many things can cause headaches. I used to have chronic headaches due to having large breasts, once I had a reduction they stopped. I did not even know until I talked to the doctor that large breasts could cause headaches!

My point is that there are just too many things that could cause head pain so if it continues you should ask a professional.

Check your blood pressure! Sinus headaches give crazy headaches. Got one rt now. Behind my nose, jaw, and side of my head. The time I had a headache as u describe, I lost my vision, slurred my word's n ended up in the emergency room. Possible stroke? Ibprofin 800mg always helped me. Could also have a pinched nerve in ur neck causing ur pain. When in doubt call the hospital n ask for a on call nurse n tell them ur symptoms. Doesnt hurt, lol.

Don't ignore it.
Call the advice nurse, talk to them and try to schedule an appointment.
Ask for an MRI to get a good x-ray for them to look over.

Actually, apart from major problems.. constipation can definitely cause a severe headache.... OR depending upon your age... a shift in hormones.. if in mid 30s or later, when your Progesterone drops, that definitely can give you a major headache. I know it does for me. I am 49 now, but when I hit 40ish, I began to experience headaches during the time in my cycle when my Progesterone was falling off. IF you track your cycle, you might begin to notice when the headaches are taking place..

good luck

I get migraines just like the one you describe here; in fact, I am getting over one right now. I get silent migraines and I also get sinus headache and I get the "weird headache" your described. It might be a cluster migraine. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cluster-headache/DS00487
I have had them all my life, but as I enter perimenopause, they are getting worse. I agree with others that you should get this checked out, but based on your history, I do not think it is anything but a new version of headache for you. Regardless, a doctor will be able to offer treatment alternatives.

If it continues and does not go away, def. see a dr. I get migraines too but a few years ago I had a terrible headache that lasted weeks and the dr just kept giving me pain meds. Finally when I was scheduled to get an mri, I started to get tooth pain. It turned out I needed root canal! After that, the pain was gone. So in addition to what others mentioned just wanted to share that as that could be another source of the pain, but either way don't wait too long....seek help

"What does your body need in order to heal?" This is the question that Lissa Rankin, MD, Author of Mind Over Medicine, now asks all of her clients. The amazing thing is that her clients don't respond with "More medication.", "Surgery" etc. They respond with things like: "I need to quit my job," "I need to leave my relationship," "I need to learn how to say 'No'," and "I need more time for myself"

So, what does your body need in order to heal? It might really surprise you to sit quietly with a piece of paper and a pen and to simply write down the question and then allow yourself to free-flow write your answer or answers.

(And, yes, still visit your doctor)

Of course see your doctor if a major issue persists, but sometimes the answer is simple. Have you been drinking enough water? Getting enough sleep? Dehydration and fatigue give me headaches that last for a week!
