Water Breaking? - Lenexa,KS

With my first pregnancy, my water didn't break until I got to the hospital, and when it did, it was a gusher. I thought there must have been gallons in there! Anyway, I'm expecting baby number two 4 weeks from today. I usually have a bit of discharge normally, and when I'm pregnant, it's a bit heavier. Last week there were a couple of days when my discharge was really runny. I asked my OB about it, and he didn't think it was amniotic fluid. I have had friends who have had their water break, and it's just a trickle, so I couldn't help but wonder if that was what had happened and the fluid was mixed with the discharge. But it was only for a couple of days last week, and then again one day this week. I would think if it was amniotic fluid, it would continue to leak and possibly get heavier, not go away? Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else has had that happen or had any thoughts about it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

If you have any doubt, you must have it checked out! If your water did break, your risk of infection is much greater! When my water broke, it was such a small amount I wasn't sure at all what it was. My OB said it probably wasn't amniotic fluid, but they tested it to be sure. It was, and I had to have a c-section that day. Good luck with everything!

It's probably the baby laying on or kicking your bladder. I've had lots of friends who had a trickle of urine and thought it was their water breaking. Turns out, they just got kicked in the bladder by the baby. Good luck...dealing with two baby girls adds an entirely new dimension to being a mommy! It's great, but don't be surprised when your older one is jealous of the little one and visa versa.

one thing i didn't know, never read, or had ANYone tell me, with my first pregnancy, is that your body keeps producing amniotic fluid even after your water breaks. my water broke at home, and it was kind of like peeing myself, almost not at all when i sat very still but more when i shifted or walked. mine was light enough that i got to the hospital without any messes, just using a regular pad. i imagine that is different for everyone.

anwyay, i kept expecting it to stop, but it was constant until...well i had an emergency c-section so i guess until my son was born, altho after the epidural i didn't feel a thing lol...anyway...i would think that if it was truly your water breaking, it wouldn't be this on-again, off-again thing...it'd be more constant. but i'm just a mom, what do i know? i hope everything turns out great, i'm sure it will!

I'm sitting in my living room watching my 3 month old perfect grandson swing in his swing as I read your post and the answers. It seems to me that you have already talked to you OB, so I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure you're going once a week now so I'm sure he's on top of it. My daughter had an incident during her pregnancy where she lost quite a bit of water, she had to go home and change, the doctor didn't see anything wrong and as I said he's a healthy 3 month old. I can't remember how far along she was, but I think it was earlier than you are experiencing, we searched the internet and somewhere read that sometimes your body makes too much amniotic fluid and will 'get rid' of it in this way. I would trust your doctor and try not to worry!

you should probably go to the hospital. A friend of mine had her amniotic fluid leak for a week before they finally listened to her that her water was breaking and that something was wrong. When they finally checked her they saw there was virtually no amnio fluid left and her son was born with multiple infections and was in the NICU for about 3 weeks. Better safe than sorry!

I have never had my water break either, but have thought that I was leaking. When I mentioned it to my ob they did a simple test with a little swap on a piece of paper that looks like what they dip in your pee. It took no time at all and showed him that what I was "leaking" wasn't amniotic fluid. I'm surprised your dr. wouldn't do this on his own, but if I were you I would ask him/her to! Better to be safe than sorry, right?

I experienced the exact same thing during my pregnancy. I had heavier discharge my entire pregnancy and once my belly got bigger I noticed it was runny. I asked my mom and she told me it was probably urine (my own!). That the baby was pushing on my bladder and I probably was just leaking a little. I think she was right. My doctor was very un-concerned and my son came out beautiful and healthy. If your doctor wasn't concerned, I would not worry about it if I were you. If you still cannot stop though, then ask him to test you. Best of luck to you and congrats on the upcoming arrival of your next daughter!

Please have them check, they can easily test if it is amniotic fluid you are leaking,I leaked amniotic fluid with my first pregnancy. It is not an invasive or scary test at all, they had me wear a pad and I walked around for a bit, so nothing to be afraid of, and you and your unborn child can be at risk for serious infection if you are leaking and don't find out for sure. I wouldn't worry yourself over it, but it never hurts to be safe. I hope all is well.
