Urinary Track Infection?

During the last month, my daughter (will be 4 the end of November) has wet on herself while outside of the bathroom. Both time where at church. Once in choir practice when they decided to have mass kids choir and combined several age groups together. I though at the time, that it was because she did not know the teachers or could not get to a teacher because of the 40 kids in the room. The other time was in the church nursery. This should have been no different than other times the nursery over the last 4 years. She has also wet down her legs and on the back of her clothes while trying to go to the bathroom several times a week for the last month. Yesterday and today, I caught her holding her crotch. When I ask her if it hurts, she either tells me no or acts bashful. Do these sound like symptoms of a infection? I am become increasingly concerned.

What can I do next?

If you want to rule out an infection, you can make an appointment with her doctor of course. But first, have her drink lots of water and cranberry juice. I personally take cranberry pills because I don't like the juice. Every time she eats, goes to the bathroom, walks by you- whatever works. If it's an infection that will get rid of it quick, I do that whenever I feel symptoms coming on, and they always go away in 1 or 2 days. I've only had to be treated once by a doc when I was a child. If it's not an infection then it could be that she is holding it too long before she goes. Figuring out why and how to stop it may just take lots of patience and persistence on your end. Make her go to the bathroom more frequently, and talk to her about if something is bothering her, or why it's bad to hold it etc.

I would have her checked out to be sure. Also, at 4 her bladder may still be catching up with her growth so therefore she has more frequency then some other kids her age. I would watch how much she is drinking at one time and make sure she uses the bathroom regularly whether she has to go or not. :)

Our daughter suffered with UTIs at that age and the symptoms didn't involve any of those items. Always ran fever and felt terrrible, very lifeless and crazy high white blood counts requiring antibiotic shots for a couple of days and then by mouth until under control. You'll know when a UTI is happening. It will require a trip to the dr. The dr. said they really aren't common. She ended up having a medical condition causing her bladder not to fully empty and had to be on meds for about 4 years to control infection.

Time to get to the pediatrician! Does she have a fever? Is she inflamed in vaginal lips? Do her panties have an odor/stain? These are sure fire signs of a possible infection. Perhaps her bladder is not growing with her body, this happened to my baby sister, however with her the problems were mainly @ night. I used to hold my 'water' to the LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT, (actually I STILL do sometimes) and it has caused me MANY an embaressing moment, I simply hate to stop what I am doing & go to the bathroom!
All of that said I still know a trip to the Pediatrician is warranted to make sure all is working as it should in her little body.

It sounds like she is holding it too long for whatever reason. There is no way she could hide the pain of a urinary track infection.

It does sound like she could have an infection Some Symptoms are there. Any fever or irritability or odor? I would call the pediatrician now and get a urinary sample while the day is still young. Either be able to rule it out this way or be able to treat it! They can grow to be very painful.
Good Luck~
