So we moved into our new house and there is carpet everywhere. As you might have guess, I don't like carpet. Our old house had hardwood floors everywhere. I can't afford to redo the whole house now, so I need help. How in the world do you walk on carpet and not get shocked or shock everything all day long??????????? This carpet is the plush kind ( not really sure what it is called ). Is there a spray you can use, like static spray for you clothes??? And second what kind of vaccum is the best for this type of carpet. I heard dyson was good, but they don't have a self propelled model. The one we have now was easy on the small rugs I hadm but on this carpet it takes a lot of elbow grease to manuever. My arm hurts after 1 room. So if anyone has any recommendations I would really appreaciate it.

What can I do next?

Your getting shocked because of winter it pulls all the moisture out of the air, try a cool mist humidifier it will help put the moisture back in the air. Or what about dryer sheets? Maybe you can rub them on the carpet to help. Sounds strange but it might help.

I also hate carpet everywhere. For me it only makes sense in the bedrooms, though I prefer area rugs. I don't know about self propelled cleaners but a friend used to spray her carpets with a mix of fabric softener and water in a spray bottle she got from the $1 store. I think she used 1 part softener and 3 parts water. She would get shocked in the winter because of the dry air. Her house also smelled great right after. We had carpet in the frontroom when we bought the house and lucked out with original wood floors in excellent condition underneath.

Oops, it is a cap of fabric softener to about 20 ounces of water. Spray about once a week.

Your house is dry. You need to have a humidifier. It will make a difference.

I agree with the other postings about the humidifier. We have one on the furnace that has summer and winter settings. As for a vaccuum, we have a hoover wind tunnel that is self propelled, and it does the trick. Although it was tough for my daughter to manuever when she was 6.

You need more moisture in the air. I am the shock queen with my long hair. I know the more dry the air the worse for me. Use a vaporizer or steam a pot in the kitchen. It will help.

It sounds like you need a humidifier in your house. We have a lot of carpet and don't have that problem. See if it works.
