Hi:
My 14yr old son (9th grade) is having trouble in Math and English. I am looking for a private tutor to give lessons a couple days a week someone who charges by the hour. I have looked into agencies, but all are very expensive. Does anyone know of anybody in the Frisco or McKinney are?

What can I do next?

Have you checked with the counselor at his school? They often have leads for tutors or a 12th grader that might want to help. Or, you might call some local private schools in the area. Teachers are paid so little, many work after school hours as tutors. I teach at a private school in Carrollton so I'm not familiar with those in your area. Best of luck.

Check with your guidance counselor. I sub teach in PISD and I know that a lot of teachers tutor on the side for extra money. It is about 40+ an hour but you can get someone who knows the system and knows how the students are taught.

If you are not in Plano isd, your isd may have a similar deal.

Good Luck

Try the school. They usually will recommend honor students to tutor. My daughter did this when she was in school and she learned alot about teaching others. Also, they are a little more receptive to kids their own age that relate to them.
Teachers usually know or can help students after school.

Call or email your sons' counselor and ask for recommendations. Also ask if your school offers peer tutoring. Some schools do. National Honor Society kids get service hours for tutoring their peers for FREE. I have also seen a lot of requests posted on craigslist and Frisco Online requesting tutors. Good Luck!
