Seeking Tutor for 3'Rd grader-math/reading/soc.studies

I'm looking for a home-tutor for my 9 year old daughter. She needs some one-on-one in math, reading comp. and soc.studies. We tried Gideon in the past, but she didn't enjoy going and therefore didn't benefit from it much. She needs a 'fun' approach to learning. Her school teachers say that she bores easily, and will not pay attention...especially after lunch. But, when she applies herself she does well academically.
Any suggestions for a personable home-tutor?

If you live in the flower mound area perhaps I can help. I am a teacher teaching ESL, with experience in teaching 3rdgd and 4th grade bilingual. I love teaching and I work with children who have a hard time comprehending strategies.
how do we get in-touch?
Never corresponded this way before.

I take my son to Sylvan Learning Center in Frisco. I felt it was better because then my son has no distractions from his sisters, TV, and his Legos...It has been helping him, especially his reading. It costs a little bit more, but not much more for an in home tutor. He had tutoring at school for free for 30 mins a week and that was not sufficient alone. He goes to Sylvan 2 hours on Tue and 2 hours on Thursdays ($40 an hour with coupon). They even helped with his behavior at school by rewarding him with tokens for good behavior. He has more interest in books now that he is able to read better. They give you progress reports. I hope that helps. Good luck in your search.

Check with your school guidance counselor. A lot of times they know people who tutor. Also, a LOT of teachers tutor on the side for extra money. It might be hard to find one this time of year with TAKS and all but give it a shot. It is worth it.

My daughter is in all honors classes, orchestra and cheer and we continue to have tutors to keep her on top of things to maintain her A's. Some meet in their home or yours but a LOT of them meet at the public library. Go to the library on a Mon-Thurs night and tables are full of tutors with students.

Expect to pay a minimum of $50/hour. I have 2 academic tutors at $50/hour, private cheer coach at $60/hour and private violin instructor at $20/ 1/2 hour.

A private tutot can mean a world of difference. THis year my daughter will be taking the social studies TAKS. Unfortunately, the current and past social studies teachers really SUCK. We are practicing with a TAKS guide at home.

Best wishes and good for you for being proactive on this for your daughter!

I had a tutor for my 4th grader over the summer for reading and comprehension - she charges $60.00 an hour - she teaches at The Shelton School so she has great experience with kids that have difficulty paying attention.

She tutors out of her home which is located in the North Dallas (Marsh Lane/Royal Lane) area.

email me if you would like her info.

I do in-home tutoring. I tutor at my house though since I have a young toddler at home. I usually tutor during her afternoon nap. I have 7 years of teaching experience in 3rd and 4th grade. Let me know if you would like any more information.
