Totally Random Question!

Men's chest/body hair: my DH has a chest & torso full of hair. He's 57 & almost all of his friends have this, too. Arms & legs are covered with hair. Varying amounts, but all hairy.

My Dad had a body!! full of hair, front - back, everywhere except the top of his head! His brother is the same, as was their father & all of the men on my Mom's side of the family. My ILs are also covered with hair, just not as much as my famiily. All of these men range in age from 40-70.

My older son, his friends, & all of my nephews are hairy on their arms & legs, but that's it. Not a single one of them has chest hair. They range in age from 24-35.

So, here's my question: where's the hair? Is this phasing out thru the generations? Total random! TIA

What can I do next?

MORE THOUGHTS:
MegandOllie: yep, keep it covered!

Jennifer D: my DH has been white since before 40. Now at 57, most of our sons' friends call him Santa!

Cheryl O: the back hair...OMG! Once my DH turned 50, he started sprouting ape hair all over his back. Thick, hairy patches. Yuck!

Mitzi R: all of the men in our families could/do grow a face full of hair, but my 24yo son cannot. Drives him nuts!

Theresa N: how about those ear hairs? Not just in the canal, like a dog....but even on the lobes! Double yuck!

Rebecca B: you know, it's funny....my 24yo son has a lot of friends who are balding or already bald. My son's hairline is definitely receding. We'd like to blame it on his traumatic hip replacemt last year! Past generations were not this far into baldness this young.

Riley J: absolutely NO waxing on any of these men! Far, far from their personality traits. & with the gene issues, my son's friends are predominantly 98% German heritage....a very hairy group! I find it interesting that it is all-across the board with these guys. Now, on the other hand, the girls are a more diverse heritage group!

S. W: 2 funny...we always joke about all of the German heritage in MO, especially mid-MO! We were at a family reunion a few years ago & one of DH's cousins was freaking out....she saw on the family tree that she & her husband were actually cousins - many times removed! Neither set of parents had been aware of the connection. But honestly, my son's friends are from all over the midwest....still German heritage tho'.

No clue, but my dad had very little body hair (I grew more leg hair) and he had 6 daughters, 1 son. My brother could grow more facial hair than my dad, but not a ton.

My husband has less body hair than his dad, but still has dark, thick hair EVERYWHERE. My FIL has a back like his chest, my husband's back is less hairy. However, he grows the most amazing mountain man beard every winter. My 6 month old has obvious thick dustings of hair all over. I hope it isn't phasing out, but it might just be genetic/hereditary and depend on which side is more dominant.

Well... for one... a lot of young men wax.

For two, native american, southeast asian, and a few other (including a few spots in european gene pool) ethnicities have almost no body hair at all. Our country is predominantly MUTT. Hair alleles are a BLENDED trait. Meaning not just recessive or dominant, but a lot of factors go into it. Start mixing some 'no hair' genes in with some 'super hairy' genes, and you'll get some super hairy, some no hair, and a LOT of "some" hair.

Really, though. I strongly suspect waxing.

How funny!! The "hair thing" is hereditary...and also "regional"...arm and leg hair date back centuries...the "hairy" you were/are - it was harder for mosquitoes, etc. to bother you because your body felt the insect land on the arm or leg....

Not sure where their chest hair is!!! LOL!!! Good question! it might be phasing out...

my husband has SOME chest hair - I would prefer him to wax it because it's that sparse!!! He also has it on the upper back of his arms - and I would love that to be gone!! Thank God it's not on his back!! That just isn't for me!!!

I wonder if your doctor would know the answer to this...it's a good question!!!

LOL!! I needed that. None of the men in my family are all that hairy and the men in my husbands aren't either. Gray hair early runs in my husbands family. Hes been completely gray for about 5 years and hes only 37. Great question though.

HAhaha! I have no idea, but yeah where did it all go? I don't mind a little hair, but covered. Nah, we can keep it hidden in that case.

My first husband, at 22, was hairy everywhere but balding on top! Next husband (35), hardly any hair on his body, but could grow it thick and long on his head to make a woman jealous. My guy now (57) is very hairy all over but bald. Both of my brothers (52 and 51) have hairless chests, one started balding at 30, the other not.

I think you just are looking at a limited sample!

Well, my guy, who is 55, has hair in places he def didn't have when he was 27. So maybe, give it some time and your boys will eventually resemble their Neanderthal linage after all?

tehehe

My dad got more than the handfull of chest hair after he turned 40... about the time he started loosing it on top of his head.

My brothers have bearly any chest hair.. and are starting to thin out on top. Wonder if they will start to get hairy also as they get older.

My uncles are about 50/50 with only chest hair/ chest and back hair. Yuck!!

Only one of my cousins have back hair and he waxes it.
