I have a 3 & 1/2 month old girl who has been drooling CONSTANTLY and she is always having her hands in her mouth these days. She has been more irritable lately than usual and so I started to look for any signs of teeth. At first I was only looking at the bottom since those a typically the first ones to come in, but the other day when I got home from work my husband showed me a small whit dot on the inside of her TOP gums toward the BACK!!! I'm just wondering if it's even at all possible for a baby this young to be getting a MOLAR?!?! If not then does anyone have any idea what this small dot could be? It has been there for over a week and I am assuming that if it was thrush that it would have either spread or gone away by now. Any help guys....?????

What can I do next?

My 3 1/2 year old had the same symptoms and her white dot was on the front, bottom. It was also hard like a tooth, but wasn't right on top of her gums though so I was afraid it was a tooth that was growing very crooked already. The doctor said it was a mucorele. It is called an Epstein's Pearl if it were on the roof of her mouth. It is essentially a big clump of skin cells that form on newborns sometimes. He said it should go away within a few weeks. Maybe that is what it is...

I would definitely talk to your doctor. My daughter acted that way for months before she actually got a tooth. My friend's daughter actually started popping out teeth when she was three months old. As for the white spot, if it is not a tooth it could be thrush or a ulcer. I would have it looked at by a doctor.

Hi, it's probably a tooth and there are no set days nor spots to where a tooth SHOULD come in. They can come in anytime and anywhere and the drooling sometimes can be a sign of teething but babies also drool alot, my baby just got past that. Same with the hands in the mouth but it ALSO can be from the gums being sore. I know some might disagree with me as some have before in my family but as told to me by my doctor is that teething does not cause fever or earaches...just discomfort. So if u believe she is having some discomfort then try giving her some infant ibuprofen (I use tylenol) or baby orajel (I use nighttime version) to help her. It also helps if u giver her a toy that she can teeth on.

This could possibly be a mouth sore or ulser*. Probably nothing to worry about but if you are concerned just call your pediatrician.

ok so go out and get her some hurrican gel, it works 100x better then baby orajel....but you have to ask the pharmacist for it...there are like 3 diff flavors and the tiniest bit works....good luck and if the white dot doesnt go away, just put a call into the childs pediatrician or there nurse line. Im sure someone can answer your questions...
good luck

I have a 4 month old and he is doing the same thing, my doctor said they can teeth for months before the teeth break through so that could be it. DO NOT give your baby ibuprofen before the age of 6 months. All labels say not to and really don't do it because it can cause liver damage before the age of 6 months. What I do sometimes is use tyneol and I take a wash cloth and wet it and put it in the refrigeator for while and then give it to him and he just loves it, it must make his gums feels better and he can rub his gums and suck the water out of the washcloth. Good luck!
