Hi Ashely,

Pls contact pediatrics.com for any medical questions or concerns related to children, a Dr will answer you; and WebMD.com for adults. Also there is an over the counter
gel to numb children's gums when they are teething.

Best of luck,
D. P.

It sounds like teething. Wet some of those baby wash cloths and then freeze them. Then let him gnaw on a corner. Babies love this for teething pain. Also, you can give him the homeopathic teething tablets from Hyland's.

That's how babies explore their world-- once they find their hands and start figuring out how to use them, they put their hands and anything they can get their hands on in their mouths.... and fussiness can come from a number of things, including a belly ache, being over tired, or over stimulated.

Sorry-- I guess that wasn't very helpful, except to say you shouldn't assume anything

If his gums are sore from teething, though, you don't need to jump to Tylonol-- try a frozen damp washcloth or frozen/refrigerated teething ring for him to chew on

Sounds like teething to me. They start teething long before the tooth actually breaks through the gum....
Good luck!

My son starting teething at three months. Your son seems to have all of the signs of teething, but he could go on like that for a while before any tooth even appears. If you feel around his front gums, you should be able to feel if there is any tenderness or a tooth under the gums. If he seems to get really uncomfortable or unconsolable, try Hyland's Teething Tabs - sold at health food stores, Publix, and usually Walmart. They work much better than every else I tried including tylenol, oragel, etc. Hang in there - it won't last forever.

My son is the same age and he's starting to teethe. He was extremely cranky one night, which isn't like him lately. A woman told me to feel along his gums and sure enough I could a little point poking out of the top. Try it! You may feel something!

yes, teething. Place a clean washcloth in the freezer, lightly wrung out, and give it to him. He'll need a bib constantly; but the coolness will help the pain of teething...

are there other symptoms?
my first reaction is to think it's reflux, as this is my business;
my mamasource listing:
http://www.mamasource.com/business/14059862321568677889

does your baby have painful, foul-smelling gas? does he strain & grunt to poop and then, when he finally DOES poop, it's soft & not hard??

does his poop have mucous in it? can look like snot, like the stringy part of the inside of a banana peel, like jelly, like the curds of cottage cheese...it is NORMAL to have poop like this once in a while, just not ALL the time.

If there is the gas, straining to poop and the mucous, then it most likely is digestive issues like reflux combined w/ sensitivities to milk protein (NOT LACTOSE!!! but milk PROTEIN) and soy protein, either in his formula or via your diet and your breastmilk...

if poop is fine and gas is fine and pooping is fine, it still could be reflux...or teething...my first had reflux (SEVERE GERD) AND got his first tooth early...

hang in there!

My little fella started sucking/gumming his hands (and just about everything else) right about 2 - 2 1/2 months. He is 5 months now and continues to have a love affair with his hands and drools a good bit; however, he has yet to cut a tooth - I think it might be right around the corner.

it could be teething. my aunt was born teething. seriously. she had 3 teeth by the time she was 3 months old. babies at 3 mos do drool a lot anyway, though. look at his gums and see if they look red and swollen. the other signs you listed are pretty much things that all babies do.

He probably is teething. My son starting teething around 3 mos, but didn't have anything to show for it until his first tooth at 6 mos. So just be aware that teething can be a long, drawn out process. And, unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it...just try to keep him as comfortable as possible. Cool washcloths, teething rings, even your fingers! Whatever helps him. If he's really miserable, try orajel or Tylenol...I mainly did this with my son at night, to help him sleep better.

My daughter got her first teeth at 4 months and mu son at 5 months, so it's highly possible your baby is teething at 3 months.
