Today I went shopping with my girlfriend to Stein Mart and Kohls. My phone is typically near me as with my job I get calls on holidays, late at night, etc. candidates with questions and problems....okay - no biggie...

Left Kohls, dropped my girlfriend off and realized my phone wasn't where I normally set it in my car...got home and looked for it - nope. No where. UGH!! Tried calling it and no joy....my SIM card hadn't been backed up in a week and my contacts haven't been done in a while either...

I ask my son to help me retrace my steps at the store. We go back to the store and I go to the register and ask if I left my phone there...no. okay - customer service. No. I go back to where I went in the store, my son calling my phone...nothing....check the dressing rooms and the lady there asked if she could help me. I said - yes - I can't find my phone. She pointed to the counter and said - is this your phone?! YES!! I hugged her. She said someone found it and gave it to her. She hadn't had a chance to take it up to customer service!!

Overjoyed! I thanked her. She was happy.

Thinking this is 2016 - what a way to start it off - losing my phone!! Someone turned it in!!

Anything good happen to you on this first day of 2016??!?!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Great story!

I was surprised this am around 11 when daughter texted and said she'd like to come to over since it's a holiday!

I've been in pj's all day. I cooked peas, garlic potatoes, cornbread, sausage and stuffed shells.

She stayed about 3 hours, we saw a movie and I'm SO thankful she came over. Unexpected and completely appreciated!!

She made my day!

So glad you found your phone!

My first happiness of 2016 was at 12:05 a.m. when my husband and I each got a text from our son wishing us a happy new year. No biggie, you might think. But he has a girlfriend who he is quite in love with, who had just come back from 10 days in Israel and who was jet-lagged and on that exhaustive high that comes from a fun but overwhelmingly emotional trip. He had picked her up after a flight delay, gotten her safely to her parents' house (driving with New Year's Eve drunk drivers which makes me so nervous), and had walked into her parents' NYE party at 11:00 PM. Still, at 12:05, with all the hoopla, he took a moment to text his parents and say how much he loves us.

Nothing can get better than that, can it?

Happy New Year!

what a nice story! i'm so glad you got it back okay.
not much going on here, but i like the quiet and the lack of peaks and valleys. both old horses are still hanging in there, the old dog and old cat too. the ol' man's on vacation until monday, and we've enjoyed a nice balance of doing our own thing and getting to hang out together more.
after days and days of gloom, there's bright sunshine this morning.
i'll take it!

Happy New Year to you too! What a great story, glad you found your phone!

My great way to start off the new year is that after having several awkward encounters with real-life friends and acquaintances who didn't know that my husband and I are separated, I shared an update on Facebook a few weeks ago. Well one local friend reached out to me a few days ago to share that she and her husband are in the same place (albeit less publicly at this point). We met today and hiked through one of our beautiful state parks (woods, pond, etc.) and then treated ourselves to coffee/tea at a local shop after. We got to spend almost 4 hours together, sharing stories, information, referrals for counselors and mediators, etc. She and I have a lot of similarities in our situations and it was so good for both of us to be able to connect and find support, solace and strength in each other. Very positive way to start off the year!

You are the 3rd person I know who lost & found their phone/purse today! Glad it turned out OK...

My good news is that a HPT came out negative this morning... 6 days late on the "friend" & I was panicking! I joked to my husband that my roommate & I have synced our cycles, & now that I'm home with him, my body doesn't know how to operate! haha

Happy New Year everyone! T. :)

So nice that people are honest and looking out for each other. I like happy endings to these small-yet-big hassles.

Nothing as dramatic happened yesterday, but it was very pleasant. We went to a friend's house for New Year's soup and puzzles; it was sweet to connect with folks I hadn't seen for a while. I'm seeing life progress as the daughters of the family continue to grow: one is graduating high school this year, the other, college, they are both scientists going into chemistry. I was a nanny for their family for years and there's a sense of satisfaction in seeing them so well-launched. For me, now, as a mom of an eight year old, it's a very hopeful experience. That they all love our son was also a lovely confirmation of how our chosen family has been such a gift to us.

Grateful. That's what I'm focusing on this year. Noticing the small things in life and being aware of how good we have it.

Happy New Year to the Mamapedia community and you too, W. W.. :)

It can be so frustrating to lose your phone (or have your computer hard drive crash).
I know some people who've lost phones overboard - into lake or ocean - there's no getting that back!
I'm glad you found it!
Back everything up and make a point of doing it regularly.

Good thing happened for today?
My car got stuck in some mud on the edge of the driveway (been raining a lot and the ground is super squishy) - husband and son got it out today!
I am so enjoying vacation - it's going to be hard going back to school/work on Monday.

Woohoo to getting your phone back. My hubby lost his a few years ago and by the time he got home and I shut it off the person who found it had already racked up $$$$ in charges. Bummer.

I had today off and didn't have to watch my granddaughters so I got to sleep in and do some knitting.

There are apps out there that will help you find your phone. They download then you can use a laptop or tablet or another person's phone and signal your phone. Even if it's "dead" it has enough power reserved to send the signal for quite a while.

My daughter has this sort of thing on hers. She's used mine to find hers a few times.

Since your phone is so important maybe you could research this and find one that you like.

Happy new year to you. I am really glad you found your phone.

Hey W.,

I was raised in Birmingham Alabama and have lived in Birmingham Michigan for decades. The crushing defeat of the Tide over the Spartans was especially enjoyable for me....evil laughter ensues. I hardly ever watch college ball....since when did the SEC conference get so beefed up?? That Alabama defensive line was off the CHAIN...... Signed, football nerd in Big Ten country.
