It's normal. I am super clumsy so I have had my fair share of boo-boo's :) Keep icing it, that's really the best thing.
Hey ladies ,
Last night I fell up the stairs, I was carrying my son up the stairs, he didn't want to go, he clips his feet under the rim of the top or second from the top stair, and I tripped over up and the step and I ended up tripping into a crate that was sitting at the toip of the stairs. Well last night the thing swelled up pretty badly I had a lump that when I put my foot down from being elevated it swelled up worse . after 4 hrs of ice that stopped . Well I went to bed last night and this morning I still have a lump, several bruses, it's painful to touch and the lump is warm to the touch. I've had injuries before but I've never had one be warm.
any one have experience with this?
Thanks ladies!
I am a clumsy one as well , I usually don't even notice when I get bruises because I get them so often. Run my toes into table and chair legs, hip into the door knob , slipped down the stairs last year strait on to my tail bone. this is the first one that's really worried me. Last night it was a good 2 inch high lump. My foot has started to bruise now as well so I'm bruised knee to toes. I guess I fell harder than I thought I did. DS feels SO bad about it. He's been apologizing all day poor kid.

That happened to my knee when I bruised the bone. I would just keep resting, icing, and elevating it. If it doesn't improve in a few days, see the doc.
RICE - rest, ice, compression, elevation. This is for any sprain or inflammatory injury. NO aspirin - it increases bleeding. Same with ibuprofen. You can use acetaminophen (tylenol). For ice, do 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Put ice in a plastic bag or use a bag of frozen peas or corn. The warmth is from the blood accumulated underneath the skin I think. It's normal for it to swell up more when you are vertical or put weight on it. You can try an ace bandage for compression but don't leave it on all the time. If it's too painful, skip it, but do the R I and E at least. It's just gonna take time.
