Hi there! I am moving to the West LA area from San Francisco and am looking for a female pediatrician for my 6 month old daughter that will be open to using an alternate vaccine schedule. I have been using Dr. Bob's vaccine schedule so far....

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies for all of your suggestions. It really helps TREMENDOUSLY to have a few doctor names that have come from other moms that share similar concerns instead of going at this whole thing blind! I am going to call around and see which doctors take our insurance and are taking new patients and go from there. If one doctor doesn't work out, then I know I have a few more I can call. This website is such a wonderful resource! Thanks again!

Dr. Elaine Gutierrez does as well. You can google her for the number, I don't have it.

Good luck and Lots of Love,

Aviva Biederman, MD ###-###-####, 8635 West 3rd Street, LA, CA 90048 (Cedars-Sinai towers)

Dr. Biederman has been my children's pediatrician for 18 and 15 years, respectively. One of the many things I like about her was that she was one of the first pediatricians to automatically use the DTAP versus the DTP vaccination. My kids were vaccinated when there was a huge upswing in autism diagnoses, and she was already on top of this.

Quite honestly, it's been a while since my kids had their original series of vaccinations so I don't know for sure if she has a policy about alternative vaccinations, however I can tell you that I made a point of vaccinating late, past certain developmental milestones and she didn't have a problem with it.

Please use my name when you call. I have an early intervention company and Dr. Biederman and her partners are in my network of referrals. Also, thanks for coming to LA, we have a huge shortage of speech and language therapists here, you'll be welcomed with open arms!

Hi K.,
If you are looking for doctors who take insurance (whereas Dr. Gordon will run you about $350 a visit!!!) I would suggest Dr. Jeanne Weiss, Dr. Rebecca DiMundo or Dr. Blumstein. I just started going to Dr. Weiss and really like her and her office. She is soft spoken, takes time with you, listens to your concerns and actually answers your questions. Additionally, her office staff is kind and the office is clean and not totally chaotic.

I have tried two other doctors in the area who take insurance but was unhappy with them (one doctor was so busy he couldn't spend more than a few minutes with us and the other was just OK but was out of the way and her office staff was totally unprofessional.) Dr. Weiss was my last hope before giving in an going to Dr. Hamilton, though he came highly recommended, does not take insurance.

Good luck! I moved from Marin 3 years ago and still miss it but have somewhat gotten used to Los Angeles.

Dr. Sharon Kaminker is at UCLA Pediatrics (on Yale & SM Blvd in Santa Monica) and lets us do the alt. vacc. schedule. However, you often have to wait sometimes over an hour for her when you get there for the checkups. We are going to Dr. Bob in Dana Point for the checkups but doing the vaccinations at Kaminker's office.

Just google her b/c I don't have the info handy.

Hi K.. We used to live in the West L.A./Culver City area and we have some great pediatricians you can call. All of them are very open to alternate vaccine schedule. In fact, we have chosen not to vaccinate our toddlers yet ourselves. Dr.Nancy Blumstein is in Culver City and her phone# is ###-###-####. Dr. Jay Gordon is at ###-###-####. Dr. Paul Crane is ###-###-####. Good luck!

Hi K.. I was just going to say that Dr Lisa Stern at 10nth St Pediatrics will honor an alternate vaccination schedule. I LOVE her, but we had to leave because we switched insurance. We're going to a more "old-school" pediatrician now, but he has also been more than willing to go at a pace that feels okay for us (VERY slow!). I think most pediatricians will do what you ask.
