Pediatric Refferal - a Tall Order

OK. Here's my very tall order. I'll be completely blown away if my dream pediatrician can become a reality.

I'm looking for a pediatrician who won't push vaccines and won't pester me every visit with "Will we do at least one today?" when they know full well that the answer is NO. I'd also like someone who is laid back and non-alarmist, has a strong background in homeopathic medicine, is open to alternaative medicine (chiropractic etc., and is accepting of co-sleeping, breast feeding and attachment parenting.

Now for the tall part of the order: This pediatrician takes HMO. Am I dreaming? Does this person exist? I can't afford to go out of network. It's horribly expensive with two kiddies. I have Anthem Blue Cross and have the option to go out of network and drain my bank account, but would prefer not to and put the money toward their college tuition.

I live in the Venice/Mar Vista area, but am willing to drive for my dream HMO earthy crunchy homeopathic relaxed pediatrician.

Please note: I'm not asking for opinions for how great vaccines are and why I should do it, just referrals. Be assured I've done plenty of research. I'm not alone and have had severe reactions to vaccines myself. My son was minimally vaccinated and suffered some pretty severe reactions as well.

Thank you.

Hi L.. My husband is a chiropractor and we both believe in naturopath and homeopathic medicine as well. We have a pediatrician/naturopath in Pasadena, but again, we have to pay out of pocket as we also have Anthem Blue Cross, although we rarely see him as we don't take our kids in for vaccinations, etc. Before him, we went to Dr.Fleiss in L.A. but we've never gotten reimbursed for the visits so we switched. He's very good, though. However, when we were living in Mar Vista, we had a great pediatrician who accepted HMO. Her name is Dr.Nancy Blumstein. She's in Culver City and she didn't pester us about not vaccinating our child. We have 2 now and both are not vaccinated and are healthy and happy. She's a good choice as we found her through our midwife who only works with doctors who believe in doing things naturally and homeopathically as much as possible. Give her a try. Dreams do come true. Her number is ###-###-####. Address is 9696 Culver Blvd in Culver City. Good luck!

Hi L.,

I see Dr. Gordon in Santa Monica, but he does not take insurance, so I do pay alot out of pocket. BUT, because I have not vaccinated, my two kids (4 and 6) only see him once a year since they are never really sick (other than sniffles). Although, he is sometimes blocked from taking on new patients, but check. The other option is Dr. Feder who is not a pediatritian but is a homeopath that also speaks about not vaccinating and is a medical doctor. I have taken my daughter to her once (the last time she was sick 4 years ago after I gave her the one and only vaccination). I do not know how Dr. Feder bills but call her. Her web site is: http://www.drfeder.com/
Other than that, I used to go to 10th Street Pediatrics and my doctor there was pretty cool about the non vaccinating but he would always check to see if I was ready (and my friend sees a female dr. there and she is also patient). Again, they went off insurance years ago, but check again.

Good Luck
D.

Hi L.,
I don't know what insurance she takes, but philosophy wise, Dr. Lauren Feder sounds like a good match. Her website is:

if you are open to homeopathy, find classical homeopath (CCH or D.Hom)- in the nature of the profession that peson will know your child very well and you will only need the MD for the medical stuff any HMO-accepting allopath will do. initial appointment with professional homeopath to find constitutional treatment may be costly ~$300, but after that all app are under $100 and you won't need that many anyway.
Good Luck
