Seeking Place to Board Horse

My son is 2 years old and has special needs. He has Arthrogryposis. A family friend offered to give us a older horse so we can hopefully use him as a therapy horse for my son. We live in Plano and I don't know of a place we can board this horse that is in our price range. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you.

There is a place called Greenville Ranch in Allen on Greenville (Hwy 5) between Exchange and Stacy. Don't know the pricing. Good luck!

Hi C.,

You might want to go by Wells Brothers (near Sams on Spring Creek and Ave. K). They have a bulletin board that lists various opportunities. Boarding in this area has become very expensive.

I wanted to also let you know about a wonderful program called Spirit Horse. It was started by a man who used to work for Equest (wonderful program, yet very expensive). Spirit Horse is FREE. I am sure you would not be surprised to know there is usually a wait, but it might be worth your while to put your son on the waiting list. I have had many of my clients (I am a speech-language pathologist) take part in that program and LOVED it. I am also a rider, so activities like that have a special place in my heart. Unfortunately, after having two children, I have not ridden my horse much, but hope to use him with some of my clients one day (when I worked in PPCD my class used to come out for a field trip to the place where I boarded my horse - some friends volunteered their horses and time, which made for a special day for everyone).

Good luck!
S.

check The Paddocks in Plano on the carrollton/Heborn line. It is not fancy but the people are nice.

Hi C.

I kept my horses at a small stable in Allen on Hwy 5, in the SE corner of E Main and Hwy 5 (Greenville). It is a do-it-yourself place, unless some boarders work out arrangements to help each other. Buy your own feed, hay, clean your own stall, feed your own horse - totally self-care. But it was very inexpensive; I had 4 horses there. The woman who runs the place is named Jody (a good friend of mine). She also has Boxers :-). I'll send you a private message with her phone number to find out if she has stalls available, if you are interested.

Maybe try McKinney Stables ... they are just 2 miles East of 75 on 380 ... ###-###-#### ... my co-worker lives off property and cleans the stalls and feeds many of the boarded horses...I am not sure of the price range, but I am sure something can be worked out....Good Luck!

craigslist also might be a place to check for options - people sometimes post boarding places there. Good Luck!

I don't know if they would be able to help but there is a place here in McKinney that does horse therapy for special needs. Here is their link http://www.manegait.org/. Like I said, I know they do the therapy part but maybe they can offer some advice or guidance for your boarding questions. Possibly exchange donating the horse to them for your son and others to use in exchange for free therapy, something like that maybe. Good luck.
