I just found out I am pregant with my second and would like to get opinions on OBs in the Westchase area of Tampa that deliver at St. Josephs....I delivered my first with Contemporary Womens Care in Clearwater at Morton Plant and loved them, but now that I live in Tampa the drive is a bit much....any suggestions appreciated!!!

Dear N.,

Dr Lorraine Bevilicqua (Dr B for short) is absolutely wonderful and she practices IN Westchase. One of her offices in located in the Healthpoint at Westchase complex (Carrollwood OB/GYN). Their phone number is ###-###-####. She delivered both of my children. And, if you happen to go into labor when she is not on call, all of the other docs in the practice are great.

I suggest calling asap since she is such a sought after doctor. It sometimes takes a few weeks to schedule an appointment.

Good luck!

Hi N.,
Before you make the decision to switch you may want to consider the following. What kind of birth experience did you have the first time and what are looking for this time around? For instance, I know that Morton Plan Clearwater allowes water births. None of the hospitals on this side of the bay allow them. Pinellas is a bit more progressive that Hillsoborough. I don't know the reason, but as a doula I have worked in most of the hospitals on both sides. If you decide that you still wish to deliver at St. Joes then I would recommend Partners in OBGYN. They're not in Westchase, but have two offices. One on Fletcher and one near St. Joes. (Sorry I know this was not a direct answer to your intial question)

I second the recommendation for Dr. Bevilacqua. She delivered my twins by C-section. I felt extremely comfortable with her and she spends time with you and treats you like a person. I also like Dr. Matthews there (if he's still practicing). The other two OB's there are nice but I always felt like they were rushing to get me in & out and didn't have the same personal touch as Dr. B. Dr. B is also highly regarded at St. Joe's. When the nurses would see that she was my OB, they told me how great she was. I suggest you make early appts. though because they do get behind schedule.

Also, Mease Countryside now has a Women's Center, opened about a year ago. I don't know anything about it though.

Dr. Reichman is located in St. Joseph's hospital and she is wonderful. I live in Westchase and didn't think the drive was bad at all!
