Seeking Help for Our Bathtub

We are having a problem with the bottom of our bathtub. It is peeling up and flaking off (kind of like paint would). We are looking to have it refinished and have the walls re-tiled and fixtures replaced. Don't really know what to call what you would have to do to the bathtub (re-enameling?). It would be really great if we could find someone that could do all of it, but don't know where to start. Has anyone every had this kind of work done before, and if so, who did you use, and would you recommend them? Thanks

What can I do next?

I would recommend Re-bath! They do an amazing job! We had them re-do our bath and walls several years ago on our older home and were very pleased with the results. They have a couple of locations in the KC area to view part of what they can do...there are so many options out there.

Good luck!

I think they call it Re-bath? They do something to cover the bathtub. I'm not sure where you are, but Independence Center actually has a display that shows this on the bottom level under Old Navy (if you're in the KC area). I hope this helps, I just noticed you didn't have a reply and remembered the display.

The process is called reglazing (thanks HGTV) and it can't be too involved because I've seen it done on Designed to Sell before and they only have a small budget and 2 days.

Hi A., my husband could help you with the retiling and fixtures. His website is www.jrbhomeimprovement.com and he is very reasonable on price. His site has tons of info if you want to check it out. I emailed him your question and here's his response for fixing the tub:

I actually can’t do the refinishing of the bathtub – that takes a very special process that uses very dangerous chemicals. But I could definitely help her with the tile and the fixtures, no problem!

But there are a couple tub solutions for A.:

1. She can put a new fiberglass liner in the tub, essentially covering her old tub – this is a good, time and effective solution:

Re-Bath of Kansas City
Mission, KS 66205
###-###-#### PH

2. If she has a cast-iron porcelain tub, then she will need to call someone who performs “reglazing.” Here is a company that does that in KC:

A-1 Procelain Refinshing
Shawnee Mission, KS 66219
###-###-####‎

3. If she has a fiberglass tub, she will need to go to someone who can “gelcoat.” It’s a process not far off how you repair Corvettes! But here is a company that can do that:

Ultra Baths
###-###-####

As far as retiling and new fixtures, that is right up my alley! Once she gets the tub taken care of, have her give me a call and I can give her a free estimate!

Hope this helps!
