Is there a good book out there for my 3 year old son about the first day of preschool? I was considering Llama Llama Misses Mama but my son seems to be stuck on the fact that Llama is sad missing Mama and that is not the message I want him to take with him on his first day. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Three great books that were referred to me by other wise moms on this web site are the following: "I Love You All The Time" by Jessica Elin Hirschman & Jennifer Elin Cole; "Hands As Warm As Toast" by Lisa Himle; and "The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn. Even though my daughter has now adjusted to preschool, she loves having me read these books to her over and over again. Good luck!

Lots of people suggested The kissing hand to me when my daughter started school. It was a great book. Plus her teacher ended up reading it to the class the first day.

"D.W.'s Guide to Preschool" by Marc Brown. We just borrowed it from the library and the kids loved it. My son is getting ready to go in the fall and this book has helped him be super excited. Plus it shows where some kids miss mom (only 1 page) and other kids having fun giving mom/dad kiss bye bye and off to what they do for the day. It is based off the kids cartoon "Arthur" I think from PBS. (and my dd is 3 but now she is jealous and wants to go to school too).

The kissing hand. I'm not sure who it is by, but it is a really sweet story.

Seymour Slug Goes to School is pretty cute. My son is 4 and received it as a Christmas gift - he isn't having any anxiety about school (yet) but he loves the book. It has a good message - school isn't really that scary and all the other kids feel the same way you do.
