Not sure where to start; in need of counselor/therapist to assist with surviving, improving complicated relationships. Specifically challenged in relations with in-laws and tug of war with issues of child rearing and place as a woman in this world. The goal would be to find a greater strength in myself and increased mental energy to handle daily challenges of motherhood. A large factor is my inability to handle negotiations of boundaries for those outside my marriage who wish to give input or have influence on our general way of life and choices as parents... I can't seem to repel the pressure from in-laws, husbands siblings who have a very different parenting style/lifestyle. I am grateful for suggestions/recommendations of where I can look or specifically who would be a great person to see. Thank you.

I've been going to see Jeri Bell in Hermosa Beach for the last few years. She is amazing! She also runs a non-profit counseling group called Friends of the Family, so she's very affordable. She's just south of Artesia, so very close to you too.

Her office is at:
2200 PCH Ste#305
Hermosa Beach

BH-
It sounds like you have a lot of insight as to what is going on for you. I understand how difficult it is in trying to set boundries with family and friends around issues with your children and your parenting.
I am a Marriage and Family therapist in Manhattan Beach (near Marine and Sepulveda). I work these issues a lot in my practice. If you are interested, please call me so we can talk.
With light,
R. Kahane

Hi B H,
I have seen a therapist off and on for 10 years, her name is LeeAnn Hart. Torrance on Madison. She is compassionate and reasonable in her approach, she helps to empower me and helps me to understand the dynamics of my relationships without giving advice or directives. She allows me to answer my own questions. Isn't that what we want to do, handle stuff on our own more and more?

I believe she rents office space at Journey of Faith Church in MB on Artesia.
She is very helpful and my husband and I went to her for some of those same issues you are dealing with.

B H,
Thank you for your insightful post. I have worked with a therapist in Santa Monica and have also started using a technique called The One Command, developed by Asara Lovejoy. I am working with her to bring this work to parents as I have found it enormously helpful in moving forward in navigating my relationship with my partner, in-laws, friends and my own parents. If you would like further information please contact me at ____@____.com are starting to offer workshops and seminars in the southbay area and have one coming up this weekend.
Best wishes,
M.
