Saving Money on Television

Hello Again Ladies!
Last question of the day, I swear!

My cable bill is just way to stinkin' high! I pay $107/month for satellite TV (that's NO Premium channels and DVR service on one TV). There's got to be a cheaper way to keep cable and DVR (I know I can live without DVR, I just don't want to!). I've tried calling them to lower the bill but only manage to get it lowered by five bucks.

I know there are lots of services out there from cable to satellite, to internet-based streaming television... but we have cancelled our home internet access completely (to support my husband's recovery from his internet pornography addiction) and having readily-available internet in our home is absolutely out of the question.

Any suggestions??

You can switch back and forth from Dish to Direct tv and keep getting the $29.99/month specials. That's what my BIL does!

how long have you been with DirecTV? If you have been there a while - you can ask for the preferred/loyalty program...tell them that you will leave their service if you don't get your bill lowered...ours is $107 a month and we have baseball and all premium channels - I've been with them since 2006.

I'm sorry you had to cancel your internet service....how are you logging on here? I would check in to seeing if there are parental controls you can set on the internet usage? I don't know....

Call around to Comcast, Verizon, Dish, etc. and see what you can get from them!! Never hurts to ask - the worst that can happen is they will say NO or give you a number you don't like!!

who are you with?

Can you cancel a couple of channels?

is this a bundle package (phone+internet+cable)?

I always wanted to get myself a Tevo box or a DVR box from walmart and tell them to keep their DVR charges.. and use that money to pay off my own box.

They say FREE HD TV, but they catch you with the HD Tier charge, and you still pay for the channel with other hidden fees.

I am afraid there is no easy way out of this one. You could switch providers, cancel your phone service and get Vonnage for $19 a month or get a magic Jack (you use your internet connection to make calls - check out http://www.magicjack.com/)

Good luck.

Been wanting to lower my bill myself.. cant wait to read responses.

and then there is Netflix for $10 a month. Cancel all other channels you hardly watch, get Netflix instead - get a DVD a week of your choice. Or get the unlimited package for a few dollars more.

We pay $49.95 for Direct TV. We have the smallest package possible that still has DVR. We can play the recordings on any tv in the house (although we only have 2 tv's.)

We have TWC (Time Warner Cable) and for internet, cable and phone, our bill is $99 per month. They have a special promotion going on right now. As for the data line (internet) simply unplug the modem and lock it up.

Good luck to you and yours.
