We pay $82 a month for a pretty decent package that includes a DVR and HD service. We've had DirecTV for many years and whenever there's been a problem, their customer service always has been good.

We recently switched from Dish Network to Uverse. We were not happy with Dish Network...had troubles from the start and support was never able to help us.

Dish Network is awful, and I would never recommend them. I had them several years ago and the savings weren't worth the switch. I used to lose service regularly even on nice, clear days, and they tried to charge me for a service call to come out to fix something that I didn't cause (their faulty equipment). Their customer service stinks and I personally would never use them again, even if the service was free.

We almost switched to Direct TV. The price was going to be amazing....but getting internet through someone else was going to be really expensive. So I just called Comcast and told them I was going to switch because my bill was too high. I am now paying 107.50, compared to the 147.50 they were about to raise it to. I got the deal for 6 months and was told to call again at that time to see what other deals they have. Don't ask my why they can't just leave it at that price, but whatever. It's super annoying, but I love my TV shows. :-) Good luck.

We live in a large apartment complex downtown and were changed from Directv to Dish. At first there were some good features to what Dish offers but then we were changed back to Directv again. Dish didn't have as many HD channels nor channels available as I recall. I really missed Directv when we were swapped and was so happy to learn we were changing back to Directv. Directv has a lot of channels available to choose from depending on your package. The DVR's are great and the system is quite easy to use and has good features too. When ever I have rung Customer Service they have been very good, knowledgeable and helpful. I think it is common for the reception to go out during bad weather, especially the recent storms we have had. It is a pain, you often have to reset the DVR but it's not a biggy. I think prices are climbing which ever you go with, but often have a few months free for some channels to rope you in to thinking you can't live without them. I think that when you ring and ask, ask for all the specials or free views - often it's a don't tell unless ask situation. Sorry can't comment on Comcast vs Dish and Directv.

We switched from Comcast to Dish Network and are soooo glad we did. With Comcast we had only one box with a DVR and local channels only available on 2 other tvs. with no premium channels. The bill was ridiculous, with Dish Network our bill is much cheaper and we have a DVR on 2 tvs, and all channels on 2 other tvs without a box (total of 4) and with Dish Network even tvs without a box have all channels!!! We were very skeptical to get a satellite because of people saying how it goes out all of the time when the weather is not perfect. We live in a very windy area where the back of our house has no protection from the elements and we have only encountered a few short outages when there was a thunderstorm. It was out for maybe 10 minutes at the most. Good Luck.

We switched from Comcast to Direct TV two or three years ago and are very happy with it. The satellite does go out occasionally due to storms but it hasn't been bad at all. Definitely the right choice for us.

Have you asked them to lower their fee? I don't have personal experience with this, but I've talked to people who have. We recently switched from dish network to comcast, and have a lower bill now. We have the dvr feature that we didn't have with dish, the on demand which eliminates the video rental fees from netflix or redbox, and more sports channels than with dish, and our bill is still lower than it used to be.
