Just found out I'm pregnant and looking for a good OBGYN in the medical center of San Antonio that will deliver at Methodist or St. Luke's. Anyone have any good recommendations? I'm kinda clueless on where to start : ) Thanks!

Anyone heard anything about the docs at Lonestar OBGYN?

What can I do next?

I think St. Luke's has the best staff of nurses anywhere in town. And, it is the nurses that will spend the most time with you in labor.
Lonestar is awesome. I absolutely love Dr. Peter Kuhl. He really lives up to his name. They also have awesome midwives working in that practice.
If you were willing to go downtown, I have a back up doctor who is amazing. His name is Dr. Pandya ###-###-####) and he works out of Chritus Santa Rosa. He is young and new to San Antonio. He is incredibly supportive of the moms that he takes care of. I have started really recommending him. You won't have to worry if he will be on call for your birth because he has a solo practice that is small, allowing him to be present at every birth. That's a plus!

Hi K.,

I would recommend Dr. Valentine Almendariz @ Institute of Women's ____@____.com's Women's Center. He always delivers at St. Luke's. I had 2 c-sections and he did both. He has been my doctor for 9 years. He is great!! Very personal and honest.

Best of Wishes on your upcoming bundle of joy.

Congratulation! I am currently 6 1/2 mths pregnant with my 2nd child and have had great experiences with the staff at Lonestar OBGYN. My doctor is Michelle Cerny-Leecock. She is the best. I would recommend her to anyone. After I gave birth to my daughter, she visited me and we talked like we were best friends. I missed seeing her after I had my daughter. I did deliver at St. Luke's, the delivery experience was good and the nurses were great. Dr. Cerny does deliver at St. Luke's or Methodist Hospital. In general, the whole practice is great! The contact # for her office is ###-###-####. I have been a patient of Dr. Cerny-Leecock's since '04.

Best of Luck,
E.

I am a physician that does OB,...and the father of one who Dr. Lovell delivered. I was present for my daughter's entire labor and delivery (at her request). We kindly asked for "no episiotomy" (as her birth plan requested and as we both verbalized at the time of delivery as well)...yet he gave absolutely no heed to our request and made an extensive mid-line cut (three cuts actually made). The episiotomy repair was very odd and quite lengthy for what he stated was "a simple second degree mid-line episiotomy with no extension nor tears"...and when asked to discuss his repair with us, he refused to return to the L&D area to do so (he was in hospital and not involved in another delivery). He did not return to my daughter during her two day post partum stay. Even at six days out from delivery she was in extreme pain...using round the clock Ibuprofen and Tylenol (800mg/1000mg together!) and every six hour sitz baths. His sutures were exposed/on the skin surface from the start and were interrupted simply cat gut sutures,...a suturing method that is known to cause vascular constriction and increased pain. I have no way of knowing whether or not the rectal sphincter muscle was torn/injured...but did, per my daughter and wife's request, externally review the repair (I had an OB nurse visualize the extend of external suturing (all the way to the rectum). It was a very upsetting situation and one that showed a complete unwillingness on the Dr's part to listen to the patient. OF NOTE: there was no reason for an episiotoly and ACOG emphasizes that episiotomies should not be used unless absolutely necessary... Check it out for yourself. At the very least, ask this physician about his use of episiotomies before you allow him to deliver you. Tell him you would rather tear...and be repaired...then have an episiotomy, as episiotomies lead to increased numbers of third and fourth degree tears!

I use Lone Star and loved it, specifically Dr. Peter Kuhl. He was very attentive to my needs, delivers at either Methodist or St. Luke's. He's more old-school, less intrusive, unless the patient requests otherwise. Wish I'd had him for my first delivery, too! ###-###-#### If you prefer a woman, there are lots of doctors in the same office.
