Round Ligament Pain--but Not Preggers

Hi all, I'm a little worried by something. My DH & I are NOT trying to get preggers right now for a number of reasons. I"m on the pill, although admittedly i have been a little absent minded from time to time about taking them. Here's my question ....... recently I've been having the ligament pain in my lower abdomen that I had during my 2nd & 3rd trimesters. It's only on the left side, and only happens when I move too fast (just like preggers). Last night it actually ached all night long -- I got up to go to the rest room & it throbbed every time I took a step. I'm planning on picking up a prego test despite the fact that I've had NO symptoms. No nausea, weight gain, or missed periods. Has anyone else experienced this pain OUTSIDE of a pregnancy? And if so, what did you do to alleviate it? Thanks for your help!

Are you on anything for lowering cholesterol? I had horrible joint pains after being on a statin for a few years. I'd be limping for awhile whenever I got up from sitting. It was also destroying my memory. I quit the statin and my joint and memory problems disappeared.

Hey, sorry to hear about your pain. I am 42, and have 3 kids. I still get these pains sometimes. Happens like you said, when I move to fast. It's kind of like a pulled muscle. All I can say is slow down, and dont' make sudden movements when it is happening often. Sometimes it even happens with a major sneeze! If it continues and you think you could be pregnant, go ahead and take the test. The last time i was pregnant was almost 9 years ago, and it still happens to me on occassion!
Good Luck!

A long time ago I had such pain but was on the pill. I was diagnosed with some hormonal problems, ovaries related (polycistic ovary syndrome). I would recommend you go to your OBGYN rather than using pain killers. Probably will recommend a ultrasound or something similar to excude any kind of common problems.

Good luck

I had the same thing, exactly as you described it, before my missed period would have come. I told my doctor about it at an follow-up appt I had for something totally unrelated the day after the all-night pain, he sent me straight to my ob to find I had an ectopic pregnancy. It could be random or nothing, but it could be this, which needs to be dealt with asap..take the test, if it is positive, call your ob, or you may want to call them anyway and talk to the nurse. Good luck!!

I would definately not suspect pregnancy first. I think would think it was more likely that you pulled something, or that you have a harmless but painful cyst on your ovary. (I sometimes get these pains before ovulation when the folicle gets big - especially when I was on infertility meds). I've also occasionally had this kind of pain with gas.

I would go to a chiropractor. The round ligament is tied into the pelvis. If the pelvis is misalinged it can put extra tension on the ligament which can cause pain when you move in certain ways. I'm a chiropractor and have seen it in patients hand I have experienced it personally as well. I was not pregnant at the time when I had it and it cleared up when I got adjusted.

Hey there,

If it persists, I would go to your OB/GYN. I had awful pains and cramps. Come to find out, I had a cyst on my ovary, and painful when it burst. Also I have urterine fibroids, painful as well....so it may be something unexpected, and only to be seen by US. Good luck!

I've had this even when I wasn't pregnant and I was told that I have shortened round ligaments and if I move to quick the pain that I get is horrible. Just my 2 cents.
