References for Vein Treatment

I have ugly spider veins which have progessively worsened over the past few years. Now that it is summer I've noticed them more and have become self conscious about wearing shorts and swimsuits. I would appreciate references to an excellent vein clinic or treatment center to safely get rid of unsightly veins, particularly in the Western suburbs (Oak Park or Oak Brook surrounding areas would be great). I have a friend who spent gobs of money to unsuccessfully treat her veins so I'd love to hear any success stories.

I had terrible spider veins all over the top half of my thighs & around my knees. I went to The Liposuction & Cosmetic Surgery Institute. Mine were pretty numerious so I had about 5 treatments (injections of saline solution into each spider vein). Each treatment would be one vile of saline & was about 20 injections. It's not very painful, just a small needle poke. The number of treatments depends on the number of spider veins you have. After the treatment you have to wear these special nylons for a few hours & you shouldn't get any sun on your legs until the injection sites heal (about 5-7 days). It was very successful & left no scars. They have several locations & a web site, but here is the info for the Oak Brook location.

My veins aren't so bad yet but one of my dental assistants who is in her late 50's does get treated at a dermatologist in Elmwood Park. No Linda (my dental assistant) is very picky with her medical attention and has done nothing but rant and tave about this Dr. Berne. Hope this helps.

I wish I could help but if someone responds with a success story, please inform me! After my 5th child, I had vericose veins the size of small ropes on the upper part of my thighs and one right in the middle of my left leg. I looked gruesome! I was so miserable in the summer because I couldn't wear shorts or skirts. To make matters worse, I also had spider veins on my ankles, around my ankles and on my heels. I felt like jumping into a potato sack because even if I wore pants, you could see veins! I went to a "vein specialist" to get rid of this ugly problem. After the procedure, I was told that I had to sleep on my back for the rest of my life with my legs slightly elevated in order for the blood to flow freely. The ropey veins went away but, not completely. I had scars from the needle punctures that were supposed to have disappeared after using a vanishing cream that was costly. Anyway, I was not satisfied at all. My legs were scarred and using cover up makeup was totally messy. That was a few years ago and I'm quite sure that things have advanced. Good luck and keep the spirit!
