Post-partum Bleeding

My daughter was born 3 weeks ago. I'm still bleeding the equivalent of a medium period. It lightened when she was 2 weeks old, but then started up again. I have a dr. appt. on Mon. to get checked out. It's not so severe that I need to go to an er or anything. Has anyone experienced this? Was something wrong, or is it part of a normal recovery? It did not last this long when my son was born 2 yrs. ago. Thanks.

What can I do next?

As long as you don't have clots (that's what I had) and then had to have a D&C done. Your body is hormonally challenged now and it will take a few months to balance it out. If it doesn't, I know of a natural progesterone cream that will help with bleeding and keeping you in top shape with your periods, plus moodiness and bloating! Wow, isn't it great that there are products like this and our OB's don't tell us about them? Sad but true. Take care, drink plenty of fluids to rid the body of the waste it needs to and keep your feet up as often as you can. When they are sleeping - so should you! Take that nap. You deserve it and congrats!

To your health,

I was bleeding for a while. I was breast feeding so I had contractions during recovery which I'd imagine contributes to the bleeding. Also, I would think that because it's your 2nd baby your uterus has more shrinking back to normalto do than with the first baby. I'm not sure but sounds fairly normal as long as you have an appointment and feel alright. I was told to not pick up too many heavy things and take it easy with the up and down the stairs situation.
Hope this helps.

I had my 4th in August, and my bleeding lasted almost 5 weeks. It got longer with every baby. I think that because you are naturally doing more as you have more kids the bleeding just lasts longer. My periods also got heavier with each kid though too.

Congrats on your new baby!

I had c-sections for both my kids, so I don't know how different our experiences may be. With my first born, my bleeding was moderate for a couple weeks then it tapered off. However, with my second born, everything started about the same, until I started very heavy bleeding after 3 weeks. My OB was very irritated, threatened to send me to the ER, and told me this was due to my over-activity. You've got a 2 1/2 son...so please be as careful as you can be about slowing it down as much as possible! (Easier said then done, right?) Congrats on your new addition to the family!

When I had my 3rd child ( she will be 1 in 2weeks ) my bleeding seemed to last forever about 4 weeks . It got longer with every baby. I was told to slow down and not lift my 2 toddlers (yeah right)how can we when the kids are counting on us .My ob said get help and I didnt so my period was back after 2 weeks and it was extremely heavy . So the lesson learned here is follow the doc's advice . I know its hard to slow down but having your period on and off for 6+ weeks stinks and only makes you more tired then we want to be . So take it easy and what ever doesnt get done will be there for your husband or the next day .

Congrats on your newest addition .
