so earlier this week i posted that my son developed some sort of rash or "pimples" on his bottom after using target brand diapers. After that i quickly switched back to his regular diapers (huggies) and the "pimples" are still there. it has not spread but they have not gone away. what do i do now? its been two days since i last used the target brand.

THANK U SO MUCH TO ALL THE MOMS OUT THERE THAT ALWAYS HELP.

What can I do next?

I would try giving him some naked time and exposing it to air to help it clear up faster. If you are concerned, you can take him to the ped.

use cortizone 10 ointment (not cream) my children used to get rashes that wouldnt go away and that is always what the doctor told me to use. If it doesnt go away with that in a few days you may need to see the doctor.

It may or may not be related to switching diaper brands, but I'm wondering if it could be a heat rash (also called prickly heat or miliaria) which can cause red bumps and clogged pores that resemble pimples. If it's a heat rash, then you should stop using any cream or ointments because they block pores and can exacerbate the problem. Keep him as cool and dry as possible. Let him air-dry after being bathed and use a cornstarch based powder to wick away moisture in the diaper area. Here is a link to some info on Baby Center. I hope this helps! http://www.babycenter.com/0_heat-rash_10881.bc

I don't know for sure, but it sounds like the same problem my daughter has sometimes (she's almost 3, not yet potty trained... AARGGHHH!!!).
Our doc said it was not actually a rash, but a fungal infection of the skin that can be caused by moisture. We most often see it develop when we don't drop off enough diapers at daycare and they put our daughter in generics -- even for just one day.
So the Target diapers really might have been the culprit, even if you only used them briefly. They just don't pull moisture away from the tushie as well. Also, some kids are just prone to these types of fungal infections and can develop them really quickly.
Fortunately, there's an easy treatment. Use anti-fungal cream (like Lotrimin) on the affected area, just like you would use Desitin or whatever. Don't be stingy... really cover it well!
Lotrimin is kind of expensive, but you can get the Target brand for about half the price of name brand. Usually the Target stuff is about $5- $6 per tube. You'll find it in the foot-care aisle, because these types of skin infections usually occur on the feet (from sweaty socks), but it's totally safe to use on the diaper area.
Ask the pharmacist to help you if you can't find it... it's often shelved in an inconspicuous area. I spent a good 15 minutes beating my brains out before I finally thought to ask for help -- duh!
Fungal infections do take a while to clear up -- much longer than the average diaper rash, so be patient and buy an extra tube or two!!!
Good luck :) :) :)

Lansinoh makes a diaper rash cream that is amazing. All of my kids got awful rashes when infants (they would bleed...it was awful). I disovered this stuff with my youngest. She developed a diaper rash and nothing helped...desitin, A&D, budreax's butt paste...nothing. Then I found a sample of the lansinoh in a goody bag from the hospital tour. Her icky bleedy rash was gone by the next affternoon. I love it. She is 6 months old and hasn't had any type of rash since she was 5 weeks old.

I can't find it in stores, but I did find it at Diapers.com and got next day delivery. Good luck!

Call your pediatrician!!!!

If the pimples have heads, it could be MRSA, a kind of staph infection, which can be extremely dangerous.

There was also a change in some of the diapers recently which has caused a concern for chemical-related skin issues.
Your best bet is to contact the pediatrician, see if they can assess (no skin disorder should be diagnosed over the phone unless recurrent).

Good luck!

You might want to take him to the pediatrician to be safe, if you're really concerned. It could be any number of things.

If it's a yeast infection caused by the diapers, Lotrimin would help. At the our last check up my daughter had a slight case of diaper rash. It looked like pimples but a little more red. And the doctor suggested the lorimin athlete's foot cream. Worked like a charm.

Hi Krys,

When I have that type of situation, I use Desitin on the rash and when I give my son a bath, I use Baby Aveeno. This has helped the rash go away in the past. If this doesn't help, I suggest making an appointment with his pediatrician. I hope that this helps!

Like others have said, it could be irritation vs yeast, etc...the naked time is good advice, can be difficult for boys because of their urinary stream (can get messy). Because it could be so many different things if the air/naked time doesn't work or if it looks worse bring for quick Pediatrican visit, it often needs to be looked at to correctly diagnose, and the different problems are treated differently, varying creams can sometimes worsen the rash if they are intended for the wrong problem. Good luck! Is it bothering him? Is he fussy about it or scratching at it?

My daughter got something similar, turned out to be a burn caused by the wipes...i had to rinse her with water and use wet soft papertowels to clean her off...and cloth diapers to heal the rash/burn. It looked like diaper rash with pimples. It took three weeks to heal completely. :)

I use the Target brand diapers and found that I like them more than the name brand however that doesnt mean that your little guy is not allergic to them. I would do lots of naked time after his bath (do it in the kitchen incase there is a wee wee accident) put on LOTS diaper cream (butt paste, desitin whatever). you should see an improvement by the morning
Also consider your wipes? did you change the brand on them too.
Its also very hot outside so consider how hot he is being in the car seat or outside in general, that could cause irriation to his bottom
Good luck but try not to give up on the target brands. I think they are wonderful.

Diapers are hot. Could be his bottom is a little irritated from the constant heat in there. Then you put him in a car seat, swing whatever, it is even more heat for more prolonged time..

Also once you have to wear something all of the time it can cause some skin reactions..

Can he go without a diaper for any time, to dry out and cool off at certain times of the day? Maybe give his toosh some air...

It may take longer than two days, if it is a rash, to go away. The next step is to see your dr to make sure it is not a yeast (or more serious) infection that may have coincidently popped up at the same time as the diaper switch.

I would try Aquaphor or Vaseline first.

My daughter was always okay when we had to use lotrimin for a yeast infection. But, my son has super sensitive skin (we use dye and fragrance free soap, detergent etc) and when told to use lotrimin he broke out in a huge rash.

Use name brand diapers if you can. We tried some of the store brands and both kids would get rashes.

First idea that comes to mind is heat rash. Google some pix of it & see if they compare.

If it's not that & you're pretty confidant it was a reaction to Target diapers, it may take a few days to go away. My daughter had a terrible reaction to any diaper with the leak guard core in it. While the rash was open & painful we would use water & wash cloths to clean her bottom. Then I'd use petrolium jelly to create a barrier between her & any diaper until she healed. It didn't take long at all & I noticed it going away. With her worst incidence it took about a week to go away.

If it's still looking rough or getting worse, visit the doc. That's what they're there for. :) Good luck!
