Ok Mommas-

How do you all store your digital pictures? I have them on my computer and backed them up with a flash drive and now it is full. Should I buy another flash drive or is there a better system? Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

BIG DITTO on Rachel. I learned this the hard way. Last summer I lost every picture that had not been printed. I now have an account with shutterfly.com. (Which is simialr to snapfish.com) There is also, walmart.com & winkflash.com. I am sure there are many more online photo places. Anyway, you just upload your photos to their servers, as many or as little as you want. There are no costs for uploading your pics to them. The only cost is when you decide to print them. When making your decision just recsearch to see which one has the best price for a 4x6 print. When I did my research I found walmart and shutterfly to be the same price. Shutterfly always runs specials like free poster print with the purchase of 10 4x6 prints or 20 prints free after 50 4x6 prints. Anyway, I highly suggest uploading all photos to an online photo center so you ALWAYS have you photos where ever you are and if your computer crashes or CD/DVD gets scratched/lost then just print another copy.

I have an account with Snapfish.com. It's free and i can create albums and organize as I get time. And when I want to print them, they can mail them to me or I can pick them up at Walgreens. Since it's online, I don't have to worry about a full hardrive or scratched DVDs.

Hi A.,
I was so worried that I would lose all my digital pictures. I recently bought a new computer and they suggested using a website that will back up all the files on your computer, including music, videos, and pictures. We pay $49 dollars a year for 3mb of storage. They did not suggest using a picture website as the main source of backup for pictures because the sites can crash and then you would lose all the pictures you have online. They also suggested an external hard drive, but I didn't want to deal with that.

I deal with photo preservation on a daily basis with my business. I would recommend one of two methods to store your photos. Store your digital photos on either an external hard drive or on DVD's. When I say DVD, I don't mean that they need to be in montage format. A DVD can store files just like a CD, but only alot more. If you need more info, message me any time.

The problem with ONLY relying on a service like shutterfly or snapfish and then deleting the originals is that you have just lost your original photo files. You should NEVER depend on an outside source to preserve your memories for you. I have no problem with shutterfly et al for printing purposes....but would never rely on them for photo preservation. And why would you pay x-amount a year for file storage when you can easily purchase an external hard drive? External hard drives are extremely cheap these days, and we are talking 500+ Gig of hard drive as a starter! For those that want the safest solution for digital photo storage, you should have your original digital files saved in two places. Personally, I save my photos to an external hard drive and then have them backed up to a second external hard drive.
