Pediatric Dentist, Evanston/Skokie

My son just turned 3 and it's time to take him to the dentist. We have Metlife insurance and currently don't really like our family dentist and don't think he is kid-friendly at all. So it's time to find a new one for him.

This is a two part question, first do you prefer a pediatric dentist to a family office and why?

Does anyone have experience with North Suburban Dental Association in Skokie (Drs. Fisher and Fadavi)? It's the only pediatric office that is on the list that Metlife sent us, for our area (Evanston/Skokie).

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I have heard from everyone I know in Evanston about Dr. Simone, however she doesn't take our insurance. We made appointments at Dr. Fadavi's office for my son and myself (different doctor) so hopefully all goes well. Thanks again everyone!

Hi M.,

I would also recommend Dr. Estes.
He has a fish tank in the waiting area so that helps you relax while you wait and he also has a play area for the kids. He's very easy-going, friendly and professional.

We have gone as a family to the Dental Professionals in the Old Orchard Prof. building for years. We see Dr. Kase. The hygenists, office staff and of course, Dr. Kase have all been great. You can look them up at www.dentalprofessionals.com. Good luck.

I've taken my son to Dr. Fadvi now twice (and he's not even 3 yet). I find the office environment, hygenists, and Dr. Fadavi to be very sweet/patient with kids, much more so than anyone in the dental practice that my husband and I go to, proving that having a dentist who focuses on kids is the way to go, especially with the littlest people! I'm in North Evanston and so the office location is pretty convienient - so I do recommend...I will say that both times he's been, I've had to hold him on my lap/hold him down while they get in there and do a quick cleaning. And yes, he did scream pretty horribly, but they are so fast he got over it rather quickly (especially since afterwards he got to choose something from the treasure box)!
I should also mention that this last time we were there, they recommended that they take him back without me at his next visit (he will be 3y.4m. then). They wanted to do it this time, but I knew he wasn't ready, but then the hygenist emphasized that next time, they want to try it (even though he's proven himself to be a screamer). She indicated that they believe the kids listen to them better if the parents are not there...I guess I *sort of* understand this philosophy, but for a 3 year old?? Just seemed a little soon...

I have a wonderful dentist in Deerfield. I know it's a little far from Skokie/Evanston but it's worth the drive. We just moved out of Evanston so I would make the drive every 6 months. It's only about 30-35 minutes. I am not sure if they will take your insurance, but I would call & ask. It's Burns Family Dentistry ###-###-####.

M., I believe there is a pediatric dentist in the 625 building in Evanston on Church street ( right off of Orrington) but I don't remember the dentist's name. Perhaps you can call a dentist in that building and ask the doctor's name, they all know one another.

i do'nt know if metlife is taken, but my son's pediatric dentist is dr. simon (pronounced as if simone)...i beleive her practice is called northshore pediatric dentistry? she's located in the rotary intl. building downtown evanston. we do'nt even live in evanston anymore and i still take my son to her bc she's so incredibly patient and does fast work, really knows how to get them in and out if necessary. worth checking to see if your insurance is acepted there.

I personally prefer a family dentist, rather then a pediatric dentist. My five year old has been getting his teeth cleaned at the dentist since he was two.
The first time it happened by accident: we came to the office to pick up daddy from the procedure. Our friendly dentist asked my son if he wanted to look around and maybe take a ride on one of the chairs, the rest was history, he enjoyed his time with Dr. Aver so much that he started brushing his teeth more enthusiastically since then. He is always looking forward to his annual cleaning.

The office is in Glenview, as far as Insurance goes, I am not sure what they accept; we have BCBS.

Hi M.,

We are in your area and have found it worthwhile to continue with the dentist we had when we lived near Rogers Park. He is Dr. James Furmanek, ###-###-####, office just south of the Loyola el stop -- corner where Sheridan Rd. splits into Devon or continuing north remains Sheridan. He is a great guy and always makes my kids laugh. When I broke a front tooth at the school carnival on a Saturday afternoon, he turned around from heading to a family wedding and came back to the office to do a temporary cap and got the permanent taken care of fast, too. My elder son has severe dental/jaw problems and Jim has been a steadfast resource in monitoring and keeping things under control till my son was ready for corrective surgery. We have never had any other dentist and I've never felt we could do better. Not cheap but not specialty rates, which is what you'll pay for a pediatric dentist. I am a writer and did several stories on this question when my kids were young. They now are 22 and 18 and their teeth are great -- thanks Jim!!!
Good luck, M.,
