FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS!!!!! This is YOUR child, not the doctor's. You (both parents) are your child's ONLY advocate in this world right now. You don't mention whether you have insurance or anything, which greatly affects your next move. Some insurance requires a referral to specialists. If your gut tells you something is really wrong after reading my story, you need to start with deciding how to get your son to a P.O.(like you mentioned). If your insurance requires the referral and his reg. pediatrician won't give it, take him to another pediatrician at least.
You mentioned that you have addressed this problem with the ped. before. If it has been ongoing, my experience may not apply to your situation. At 18 mo. old, my baby girl caught her foot in a chair back at Granny's and limped and walked on tiptoe on that foot for several days, but experienced no pain. My gut told me that she was favoring that leg because she noticed how excited her daddy got about whether that foot was okay at the time of the incident. We decided to check thoroughly for swelling or pain everyday, but otherwise to ignore the limping. Within two or three days she stopped completely and has never done it again. You should trust yourself, and never forget that no one cares about your child's well being as much as you do. Don't panic, calmly go about getting the info you need to parent with confidence.
Sorry so long! Hope this helps.

Take him to a pediatric orthopedist - I believe in mom instincts. I like Accousti at Children's New Orleans, I also hear that Gonzalez is good. Message me if you want more information, I live near Baton Rouge and know more about orthopedics than anyone should because of my son.

J., when my then 1 yr old broke his foot we seen dr. Herndon ph. ###-###-####. The staff is great. They really worked with His fear of the Saw (to remove the cast. Most of the time it was quick in quick out.

Hi J.,
Did your pediatrician say why he thinks everything is OK? It is normal for kids to change the way they point their feet as their legs grow. However, usually both legs will do the same thing, although one may be a little different. Limping always concerns me a little. It wouldn't hurt to have him checked by an orthopedist. New Orleans Children's should have some good ones. Also, there is a Shriner's hospital in Shreveport and all care there is free. They specialize in chidren's orthopedics. You can look them up online, or call your local Shriner's club for information. It's probably nothing, but can't hurt to have it checked. I also have a 4 year-old boy and 3 month girl...too bad we live in Mississippi!

There is nothing like a mother's instint. Get a second opinion, and if you still have doubts, get a third opinion.

Good Luck and God Bless your family

I highly recommend The Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic. Call them and make an appointment. It is a top notch facility with great nurses and doctors. Here is a link to the website where you can find more information: http://www.brortho.com/Default.asp and the phone number is: ###-###-####

My son's doctor is Dr.Blanchard and he is super! Dr.Blanchard is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Foot & Ankle Surgery and Sports Medicine. The Clinic is located on Bluebonnet past Perkins Rowe on the right.

Trust your instincts...no one knows our children better than we do. Good luck and hang in there.
