My son is 7 he's had a lot of health issues.. He had torticalus as a baby flattening of his head he's autistic and has flat feet now his right foots outward causing him a hard time to ride a bike, skate and even walking is difficult. He sees a chiropractor with little effect on his foot which is because of his hips some what. But the doctor has discussed putting something in his heel to help straighten it back out... Every time I try to find info nothing comes up.. Really worried about what to do to make quality of life better for him so he can be like the other children in the house and school

What can I do next?

Is there a Shriner's Hospital near you? They specialize in orthopedic problems. All treatment is free. My son has been a Shriner's patient since he was four weeks old. Look them up and call !

He definitely needs to see an orthopedist. This is outside the realm of expertise for a normal pediatrician, look in your area for a pediatric orthopedist and make him an appointment ASAP.

Take him to an actual orthopedic specialist. Often, feet that turn in or out can be adjusted with inserts or special heals on special shoes. Inserts can also help his flat feet. Only an orthopedic specialist can tell you the best course of treatment.

Take him to the podiatrist. They'll make the lifts for the bottom of his feet custom. They really helped my grandson to turn his feet in a lot. A good podiatrist will work on everything you've mentioned.

Ours even gave us exercises to do with his hips so it would strengthen the muscles all around the feet.

As others have posted: He needs to see a specialist. Has he never seen one before this? It's past time that he did. If he is only seeing a chiropractor, that alone is not what you need. Chiropractics is fine but your son is growing and needs evaluation and intervention by a pediatric orthopedist now, or his issues may reach a point where they cannot be treated if you continue to wait. See a pediatrician and insist on a referral to a pediatric orthopedist rather than just seeing a chiropractor if that's the only thing you're trying at the moment. Good luck.

When you say "the doctor" has talked about putting something in his heel (do you mean in the heels of his shoes? It's not clear) do you mean his pediatirician or the chiropractor? Unclear how you're getting him treated at the moment. I really would get him evaluated ASAP before he gets any older or grows any more.

Does your son go to OT or PT as part of his overall educational/therapeutic program? I agree with the other Mamas who suggest seeing an orthopedic specialist.

with both of my sons, my pediatrician gave me exercises to do with them to help their legs/feet issues.

My older son was under the care of a pediatric orthopedic surgeon from the time he was 6 until adult age. I received instructions from his office & we regularly used a physical therapist for his hip issue.

I do believe you need to seek help from a pediatric orthopedist. This specialty will also be well-versed in treating children with other dx. such as your son's autism.
