Nostalgic Movies

the Neverending Story and the Princess Bride for me. I rarely watch one without watching the other right after, and if it's a really rainy or depressed day, I follow up with the Goonies. All remind me of being in a blanket fort as a kid.

I'm with others, I can't name just one.

I'm sorry for the loss of your mom. My father in law died in May. It's been a tough summer for my boys who have been going fishing and doing stuff with their Paw-Paw. I know Tyler misses his dad and I do as well.

I don't have such a movie but my adult daughter does. It's any movie based on Jane Austen novels. The ones that follow the story. I can't think of one title. Up until a couple of years ago it was Anne of Green Gables.

I remember Summer Place. I loved that movie too. When I think about the movie I see the beautiful house sitting above the ocean and hear the theme song. I admired her smooth, blonde bouffant coif. My hair was too fine to wear that way.

"The Shop around the Corner"; an Ernst Lubitsch movie from 1940 with Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan. It's just a funny little movie about misunderstandings, love, idylls and lots of high comedy. One of those alls well that ends well sorts of things... I watch it around Christmastime every year, and when I just need a curl up with a cup of tea movie snuggle.

Grieving can be so hard-- sweet movies are a nice distraction. :) Hugs.

Ooooohhh, tough question but good one!! I love so many of the old movies, but if I absolutely had to narrow it down to just one it would probably be "Pillow Talk" with Doris Day and Rock Hudson. I absolutely love Doris Day (not sure if it's because we're both from Cincinnati or what) and have just about all her movies on DVD. I love her clothing in this movie and her apartment, etc. And of course the "girl meets boy" theme; cute and funny!!

P.S. Sorry about this being the anniversary of your mom's passing. I lost mine suddenly in June 2009; I still have moments of feeling the painful loss, so I know it can be rough. Hugs!!

It's a Wonderful Life

I am not really a movie person but I wanted to chime in and say I am sending good thoughts your way since this is a tough time for you.

I like to really retreat into another world. Since I can only pick ONE here (you cruel poster, you!), I'd pick Sense & Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. There's something about manners and proper speech that intrigue me even though I know it was a restrictive time especially for women or the poor. I block that out and enjoy how freaking polite people were to each other!

So sorry about your mother's death - the anniversaries can be very hard but also filled with good memories.

I have severally. One is Jane Eyre - 1944 version with Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine. Mainly as it reminds me of my grandmother and I watching it together. The Breakfast Club- I watched this movie countless times as a teen. Anne of Green Gables/ Anne of Avonlea. Just a wonderful, and heart warming series. Same with Sarah, Plain and Tall series.

Musicals are great for this. The Music Man, Hello Dolly, The Sound of Music and my favorite Paint Your Wagon.
