New OB???
Hi, Moms! This is more of a "what would you do?" question than anything. I have 2 beautiful and healthy kids for both I had the same OB (and loved her). She's moved up to Elmhurst and that's just not possible to keep her for my 3rd pregnancy. I have chosen a new dr. based on a friend's recommendation. I liked her, BUT here's the problem...long story short. My dad had a pulmenary embelism in Sept. and my grandma a stroke in Dec. It was suggested that we all be tested for the genetic cause Protein C and S and MTHFR. I was tested APRIL 2nd. In the mean time NO CALLS from her office. I had to see a diff. dr. in the pracitce yesterday MAY 1st. It turns out I am positive for Portein C and MTHFR. These are SERIOUS conditions and can cause major birth defects and miscarriage. My thoughts are that as my OB wasn't it her obligation to inform me BEFORE a month had passed? I feel that I was cheated out of a month IF there are things I could have been doing for the baby. I'm not sure I can switch at this point (15 weeks), but I am angry at her and don't know if I can face her other than to tell her how disappointed I am that she dropped the ball. I didn't like this other guy in the practice. He told me of a woman that had two normal births and had a stroke during her 3rd!!! Why would you tell a pregnant woman carrying her 3rd child about THIS woman??!!! So my questions are... would you tell off the 1st dr? Would you try to switch and try to base it on the fact of neglegance? Is this normal behavior for drs.? I just assumed I would have gotten a call. I cried all the way home and would have liked to have someone there to drive me home at least. Does anyone have an OB they love in the south suburbs? HELP! I'm upset enough for myself and what this means for my future, but my baby is involved and that is unbearable!
Thanks, MOMS!

You of course can change OBs. It may even be necessary if you are in a "higher risk" category. YOu didn't mention where you live but you might want to find one in a larger hospital that can handle these types of issues or who have experience dealing with this specific situation. It would be worth it to travel for the safety of you and your baby.
It's not worth it to "tell off" your ob. The damage is done already. She'll get the hint after you don't see her again and dispute her bill.

Hi E.,
I had protein S deficiency problems during pregnancy - scary. I think that your OB should have contacted you immediately. You need to be with a high risk OB now, also probably a hematologist, too. The hematologist that I had handled all the blood issues with me during my pregnancy. I think that my OB's (I saw a different one every time), didn't have a clue and were frightened. The hematologist that I went to was Dr. Stein out of Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. I highly recommend him but not the OB's that delivered my son I wish that I would have insisted on going to a high risk OB. My OB's were "inept and lazy." quote from a second opinion OB.
These blood clotting problems are scary. They can be life threatening to you and your baby. They had my legs hooked up to a compression machine during labor and also while I was in the hospital after the birth to lower the risk of blood clots and strokes. I was in labor 22 hours like that until the OB's (not high risk) decided to do a C-Section. I think they were delaying the C-Section because I had been injecting blood thinners at the end of the pregnancy. I needed two blood transfussions after the delivery. The dumb OB's were calling my symptoms (couldn't stand up, couldn't sit up. trouble seeing) post-partum depression until the hematologist set them straight and gave me two blood transfusions four days after the delivery.
My recommendation is to not fool around with a regular OB and go straight to a high risk OB immediately. Plus, ask for help from a hematologist.
Best of luck to you! E-mail me if you need further info.

I loved all three physicians at Glenwood Medical in Orland Park. However, they are all males and I realize not everyone is comfortable with male OB's. Unfortunately, I had to switch for insurance purposes and I miss them deeply.

Hi....
Sorry about your situation. I go to DR Alan Luke. He is in Oak Lawn and is affiliated with Christ Hospital. Christ is a great place to give birth, especially if you are high risk as I was, because the have Hope Childrens hospital and so many wonderful neonatologists there. (Which my son had to use). Feel free to email me if you have additional questions. I was going to Dr Luke for many years before I even got pregnant. He is very kind and never rushes you. My sister has also used him for both of her pregnancies, with her last being high risk twins. Good luck to you in your search.

Dr. Dexter Arrington and Dr. Shaunda Chin-Bonds in Olympia Fields were great! I just delivered Connor last May. Dr. Arrington is older and more experienced. Dr. Chin-Bonds is much younger but seems very knowledgeable, very concerned about my health. The office is organized and they really got back to me when I had questions.
