Hi,
We just bought a home and unfortunately are having to do much more to it than we had thought. One thing that we have to do is replace some carpet b/c of the horrible dog smell that is in it. (It has been cleaned twice now and once with the chemical enzymes and it still knocks you out when you enter the room - even my husband and dad who usually aren't bothered by things think it is horrible and needs to be gone ASAP!) New carpet was not in the plan and especially not in the budget but it has to be done atleast in the master before we move in. I have someone who has already said that they would install the carpet for me at a good price but I need to know where I can get just the carpet. I was hoping to find a wholesale or outlet place where maybe they had discontinued or last year carpet but that is still good quality and looks good too. Thank you in advance for any tips you may have!!

What can I do next?

Call Alan Vogel at Carpet Direct. There is no middle man. It's the exact same carpet at Home Depot and Lowe's under a different label. It's about 40% cheaper. Alan's number is ###-###-####. Tell him M. sent you.

I'm a realtor and one of my clients flips homes frequetly
using Premium Carpet Masters. He recently bought 88 yds of
stainmaster carpet, pad and installation for $1050. The
carpet is very nice, looks great and a great installation
too. They were on time, and removed the old carpet...

Give them a call at ###-###-####. The guy who helped with
this sale was Jeremy Friesen.

Hope this helps,

Home Depot & Lowes both have very reasonable carpet prices and quality that they will gaurantee....but the main reason I am responding is because we had a friend who had the same problem and after they replaced the carpet the smell came back. Turns out the smell was in the sub floor. They had to pull up the carpet and have the subfloor painted with kilz to block the stains and odors then reinstall the carpet. It finally got rid of the smell!

I don't know where you can get inexpensive carpet...Lowe's typically does their sale in February.

I did want to offer one very important tip, though. Once you pull that carpet up you will probably want to seal the slab underneath. Your installer should be able to do this for you. If you don't do this you run the risk of still retaining the smell after you spend all that money on new carpet! We had to do this to extinguish the cat smell from our dining room. It's quick but the sealant is pretty stinky. Still, no kitty smell remains in our house so it was worth it.

Good luck!

Habitat for Humanity has several ReStore locations in the metroplex. One is in Plano, one is in Garland/Mesquite, and another in Dallas somewhere. These stores take donations from builders and others, so you can finde carpet, hardwood, tile, appliances, furniture, lighting and plumbing fixtures, etc. at bargain rates. I saw a brand new dishwasher (no box) for $65 at the ReStore in Plano. These places re perfect if you ar fixing up a home on a budget.
