I am new to the Bakersfield area and am now pregnant with my second child. I need some opinions or recommendations for an obgyn.
I'm not into home-birthing. I'm looking for a doctor who will deliver in a hospital.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

If you are in the Southwest area especially (you don't have to be), I recommend going to San Dimas Medical Group. It is located on Old River Road in the same pavillion as Mercy Southwest Hospital. My doctor is Dr. Kannapaan - she is wonderful! She has been my doctor for 4 years now through 2 pregnancies. She didn't deliver either of my children unfortunately. Dr. Klis & Dr. Tsai delivered my children & I loved their bedside manner through my labor too. Last I heard, Dr. Tsai was taking new patients - he is very thorough & will discuss everything you need/want in all the details you need/want.

Hi A.,
Welcome to Bakersfield! I, too, am fairly new to the area. We moved here in June when I was about 7-1/2 months pregnant with my second child. Needless to say, I was anxious about switching doctors during the pregnancy, especially since I loved my old OBGYN back in Texas. However, I received a recommendation of Dr. Klis before moving and he accepted me as a patient, even so late into the pregnancy. I was so glad to have switched to him. I had gestational diabetes and he and his staff took very good care of me and addressed all my concerns thoroughly. As mentioned, he has a wonderful bedside manner. He was also great with my first child (who is four and went to all my appointments with me). I do have to say, though, that getting in to see the doctor at your appointment time is NOT San Dimas' strength. I always had a long wait, even at morning appointments. Dr. Klis was the one who delivered my baby and it went better than my first delivery, which was a breeze, so that's really saying something (I guess about the nurses/hospital I had also). Due to the gestational diabetes, I was induced, so Dr. Klis made sure to schedule me for a day he was delivering anyhow - so, I can't speak to the likelihood of getting "your" doctor to deliver with San Dimas. He delivers at Mercy Southwest Hospital and his office is in the next building over from the birthing center wing there. Good luck and feel free to e-mail me if you have further questions!

A., you have come to the right place! :-) I noticed someone mentioned San Dimas. I attended there up through my last child. Originally I had Dr. Kliss, whom I highly recommend if you choose San Dimas. However, there customer service is not always the best. I found it very hard to get questions answered by the doctor, not to mention a good hour or more wait time. Unfortunately, it was not Dr. Kliss' choice it was the staff trying to screen the calls. With my last child, my husband asked that I begin seeing a female OBGYN. I began seeing Dr. Edwards. I liked her. After my child's birth a tumor was found with some abnormal cells in my uterus. I called to ask my doctor about a natural treatment to shrink the tumor instead of the alternative shots (menopause) before my mandatory hysterectomy. I was informed by her staff that Dr. Edwards will not take calls from patients and that I would have to make an appointment just to get questions answered. This was the second time this had happened with me. Once with Dr. Kliss and the second with Dr. Edwards. I still believe in customer service and San Dimas is not the place for that not to mention it is very unlikely to get "your" doctor for delivery. However, when my daughter dropped into the birth canal at 26 weeks I had to see the doctor on call at San Dimas which was Dr. Ynostroza. He was amazing and I am sure anyone who has had him will tell you the same. This man could tell me things about me just by an examination. I found out I was what they call a 15%er (only 15% of women have a backwards uterus). He also could tell me all about my sex life just from the examination. I was impressed. Well, after all the problems I had with the staff I decided to find a new doctor to have my hysterectomy. This was a very stressful time for me and having a rude and inconsiderate staff was the last thing I needed. Low and behold Dr. Y was now out on his own. He was so understand, caring and very thorough and Lord knows I needed that. I highly recommend him to anyone. He is located right across from CSUB (9300 Stockdale Hwy, Suite 100). His number is 661/663-0333. Give him a try. You won't be disappointed.

Hi A.,
You'll probably get tons of responses to this question! Most women swear by their own OB/GYNs! I go to Dr. Leonard Perez and have had him for all 4 of my children. He is located in the Highgrove Building across from San Joaquin Hospital. He has been wonderful for me. He was actually able to deliver all my children himself and I love his care. I wanted epidurals for all my deliveries and he was great about that. I know him from working with him so I kind of had the inside track, there. I would recommend him to anyone. Good luck with everything!
