My question is a bit unique my husband and I were not married when I had my daughter so I gave her my last name. Now we are married and thinking of having a 2nd child. I didn't change my name after marrage but if we have another I think it waould be nice to have matching names. Anybody know how to go about changing her name to match as well?

What can I do next?

Is his name on her Birth Certificate? If so, you just need to go to a lawyer and spend a couple of hundred dollars on the paperwork. If not, you need to spend a little more than a thousand adopting her. Good luck, A.

If you both sign your daughter's birth certificate on the back and consent to the name change there should be no problem. I have to do that with my daughter. Just take it down to the where tou can get a copy of your bith certificate and they should help you

I think the social security office would be where to start. A lawyer could help you but I don't know how much they would charge.

Hi V.,
I did the same thing. Here Is and easy wasy of doing it instead of putting a petition in court. Call your local hospital and ask the could they mail you an Acknowledge of paternity form. You and your husband have to fill it out. On the back of your daughter birth certificate make the changes. You and your husband both have to sign it and have it notarized or a witness needs to sign I don't remember which. The you just have to send everything to the depatment of vital records. I beleive it it free since you need corrections made. And they will send you a new birth certificate in the mail. One you get the corrected birth certificate back go to www.socialsecurity.gov and print out the form to change her name on her social security card and mail the form with a copy of the new birth certificate.

Unfortunately legal name change involving a minor always requires a lawyer. A pain but worth it in the long run I think. Your husband could make it easy and you could all use your last name ; )

Depending on where you live, you have to go to court to get it changed. There might also be a fee attached to it. Good luck.

I have looked into this as well and was told you have to go to the camden county courthouse in camden and apply for a name change. You actually have to go in front of the judge. I am not sure of court costs, etc b/c I haven't had the motivation to actually go through the motion but I don't think it's much more than that...

Hello. My Mother went to the courthouse and got her name changed for $25.00....I don't know if you can do it the same way with a minor or not. As long as your husband is the biological father i don't think it would be a problem at all.

Contact the local Social Security Office in your area and see how you apply for a name change since marriage. Explain your situation to them & I know that they should be able to help you. That was the first thing I had to do after I got married was change my name on my Social Security card. Also contact the DMV to have it changed on your Drivers license. Those were the 2 places I had to contact to change my name. If they can't give you any answers. Contact your local county court house. They should be able to help you!!! Good luck!!!

Hi V.,
This is actually really easy to do. I did this as well when my son was 10 months old. All you need to do is you and your husband need to go to a notary place (in my area it is called wiggins notary) It is the kid of place you go to for auto tags and that sort. Bring the original birth certificate and you and your husband will need ID'S. You pay a small fee, show daughters birth certificate, sign papers and your done. Thats it. They will mail you a new birth certificate. Unless this way has changed this is exactly how I did it. You husband MUST be present and sign as well. Good Luck!

I think you go to the courthouse with the birth certificate and fill out the paper work there. You will have to change it for her social so you can go to the Social Security office on 2nd and Penn and do it there also.
