The child support courts recently added my daughter's father's name on her birth certificate and changed her whole name. How long will it take to be in the system, meaning on her birth certificate and social security card???

What can I do next?

As other's have already said, the change is immediate for her birth certificate. You just need to request an updated copy. For her social security card, you need to physically go to the SSI office with the amended birth certificate and proof of your identification to have that changed. You will get her new SS card within 2-3 weeks after putting in the change request.

It will happen when you make it happen. You need to go to the Social Security office with the legal documents that show the name change and put in for a new card with her new name. Same with the birth certificate. You need to go to the court house department of vital statistics (records) with the legal documents that show her name change and request (and likely pay for) new birth certificates with her new legal name. We had to do all of this when we adopted our daughter and changed her name. Good Luck!

Once you get the info with SSI it only takes a few days to be in the system.

This is actually an immediate thing as soon as it is filed and you have a copy of it. Depending on the age of the child, you can appeal to have HER name the same because it would affect her in a negative way. That is if that is what you want.

Name changes are quite easy and are about $30

You need to request a new birth certificate and then you go down to the SS office and change her name. Check your paperwork you may have already filled out the request for the new certificate to be mailed to you. Here in Texas it costs about $7 for a copy.

I've done this with our oldest son, my husband adopted him. We went through exactly this procedure.
